The absorption, fluorescence, and electrochemical properties of these naphthoylenebenzimidazolone dyes and their usefulness as visible light initiators of free radical polymerisation of trimethylolpropane triacrylate were examined. The initiation efficiency of these dyes was compared with that of the parent 7H-benzimidazo[2,1-a]benz[de]isoquinolin-7-one in the presence of a coinitiator. Results show that these bifunctional dyes are able to initiate polymerisation without an additional coinitiator. Photopolymerisation studies and the relationship between the rate of polymerisation and the free energy change for electron transfer revealed that, depending on the concentration, initiating radicals are generated via intra- and intermolecular electron transfer.

SilicatesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A new class of silicone has been developed for coatings or as coating additives. Cycloaliphatic silane monomers were prepared and reacted into more easily handled cyclic oligomers. These cyclic oligomers were ring-opened into siloxane polymers. The polymers were functionalized with a variety of groups, including: amino, glycidyl epoxide, cyclohexene epoxide, acrylic, and alkoxysilane. The cycloaliphatic silicones have been designed for a number of different curing conditions: (1) ambient temperature-cure (amino and glycidyl epoxide), (2) cationic ultraviolet (UV)-cure (cyclohexene epoxide), (3) radical UV-cure (acrylic), and (4) moisture-cure (alkoxysilane). The end usages thus far have been focused on silicone coatings; however, usage as coating additives will be a focus for future research. The cycloaliphatic silicone has been UV-cured with mixed sol–gel precursors for usage as aerospace coatings. The cycloaliphatic silicones have also been ambient temperature-cured for release coatings, and have application as anti-fouling coatings. The inherent low surface energy makes the cycloaliphatic silicones prime candidates for surface tension additives. Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Recent advances in photoinitiated cross-linking will be presented, in particular regarding the efficiency of novel photoinitiators, monomers and functionalised oligomers, as well as the performance of the polymers obtained by this environmental-friendly technology. Such ultra-fast reactions can be easily followed in real-time and quantitatively by infrared spectroscopy, to assess the influence of chemical and physical parameters on the polymerisation kinetics. Because of their remarkable properties and high resistance, such ultraviolet (UV)-cured coatings proved particularly efficient to protect a large variety of materials (plastics, metals, paper, wood) against chemical attack, corrosion and weathering. VernisIndex. décimale : 667.4 Encres Résumé : How the availability of new photoinitiators is resulting in the more efficient curings of inks ?
Today, UV-curable systems are well established in numerous graphic art applications such as inks and overprint varnishes. In addition, promising new application areas, for instance UV inkjet, were developed in the recent years. The availability of efficient photoinitiators is essential for the progress of UV technology, since reactivity directly influences speed and stability if the production process.
High photoinitiator reactivity is vital for a high conversion degree of the binder molecules at a very high cure rates ; this in turn directly influences the resistance properties and the migration behaviour of the cured inks and varnishes. Low volatility, low odour and migration are required to meet increasingly stringent legal restrictions, in particular for food packaging.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : UV absorption spectra - Thermogravimetric measurements - Solubility
