Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Acid and disperse dyes are two well-known synthetic materials that are primarily used for dyeing of nylon 6 fibres. Despite their good performance, several negative impacts on the environment, including air and water pollution, are major concerns to researchers. An alternative ecofriendly approach to the dyeing of nylon 6 is the use of natural dyes, given their abundant natural sources, biocompatibility, biodegradability, non-toxicity, non-allergic responses, and non-carcinogenic effects on human life. Based on these advantages, we extracted polyphenolic dyes from henna leaves, pomegranate rind, and Pterocarya fraxinifolia leaves and studied the dyeability on nylon 6 fabric using three compounds of aluminium sulfate, tannic acid, and tin chloride as toxic and non-toxic mordants before dyeing. Fourier transform infrared spectra of the nylon 6 fabric confirmed the coordination complexes and ?–? bonding between the mordants and the dyes. Colorimetric and fastness results showed that the mordants increased the colour strength and improved the fastness properties of the fibres. Our results suggest that tin chloride and aluminium sulfate as metal mordants can be successfully replaced with tannic acid as a biomordant in the natural dyeing of nylon 6. Also, cost assay showed that dyeing of nylon 6 with extracted natural dyes from waste leaves could be a sustainable and economical substitute for synthetic dyeing.

Transfert de chargeIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : It is well-known that strength and stiffness are commonly inversely related with toughness and ductility for organic filler filled elastomer nanocomposites. These performances are governed by the dispersion of organic fillers and interface of elastomer nanocomposites. Herein, the designed physical and chemical hybrid-network based on tannic acid (TA) as interface regulator and cross-link agent can endow graphene/elastomer nanocomposites with reinforcement as well as toughness simultaneously. The results indicate the formation of a strong and stable network structure composed of elastomer chains and graphene, contrary to traditional graphene/elastomer nanocomposites. The present composites with a physical and chemical hybrid-network effectively improve the load transfer and show excellent mechanical properties. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL SECTION : Materials

Test d'immersionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Ferric tannate was synthesized at pH 4 and pH 7 (FT4 and FT7, respectively) as a new class of environmentally friendly antifouling pigments. The solubility of both pigments was evaluated by gravimetric tests, showing that FT4 is more soluble than FT7. A mixture of rosin/acrylic resin (9:1 w/w) was sufficient to form an antifouling coating due to improved matrix properties. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements were used to determine the apparent water coefficient of diffusion (D) and coating behavior. The D in the coating formulated with FT4 exhibited better values than that obtained with FT7. EIS results showed that both coatings present Fickian behavior at the initial stages of immersion, while flat Nyquist plots revealed penetration of water in the films. The physicochemical characteristics of FT4 pigment were determined by thermogravimetry and Fourier transform infrared. Immersion tests in the Mediterranean Sea demonstrated the excellent efficacy of the FT4-containing coating against marine fouling after six months of immersion. Hydrolyse

Retannage
TaninsIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Chrome VI (Cr6+) is a hazardous form of chrome that poses a grave danger to unsuspecting users of leather products. Phenolic acids in organic tanning materials have been known to reduce such free radicals into their stable less harmful states which in this case is chrome III (Cr3+). This study was carried out to investigate the potential of Plectranthus barbatus leaf extract in blocking the oxidation of trivalent chrome to the hexavalent species in leather through pretanning and retanning formulations. Preliminary tests were carried out to determine the Total Phenolic Content (TPC) of the leaf extract followed by analysis of the respective free radical scavenging activity. The level of Cr6+ in respective tanned samples was determined and compared with values of samples from chrome solo tannage. An average TPC (mgGAE/g) was 22.84 and 28.18 with ES50 values of 180µg/ml and 160µg/ml respectively for aqueous and methanolic leaf extracts. Artificially aged leathers posted average Cr6+ concentrations of 0.4mg/kg and 0.7mg/kg for pretanned and retanned samples respectively as compared to 18.5mg/kg in wet-blue leather. The results showed that Plectranthus barbatus leaf extract potentially minimised the formation of Cr6+ in leather products.
