TriméthylolpropaneIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : While the chemistry of anti corrosive pigments is well understood, the binder system is still a wide area to explore with. Alkyd system by virtue of their unique attributes including flexibility, Iow surface tension, Iow cost etc has therefore been the cynosure of all research activities. This study has been done with alkyd resins of three different fatty acids namely Soyabean oil fatty acid (SOFA), dehydrated castor oil fatty acid (DCOFA) and Linseed all fatty acid (LOFA). Glycerol, trimethylol propane and pentaerythritol are the three polyhydric alcohols which have been included in synthesising the alkyds. The efficiency in terms of resistance against corrosion have been evaluated without using the anticorrosive pigments in the formulation in order to understand the role of individual alkyd system. SilanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This work aimed at understanding the role of silane pretreatment layer in an organic coating system. The study consists of two parts. In the first part, the anticorrosion performance and interfacial property of silane-pretreated epoxy coatings were studied. The results showed that pretreatment with functional 3-glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) strongly improves the adhesion of epoxy-coated AA2024-T3 aluminum alloy due to the high interfacial compatibility between silane and epoxy coatings and that pretreatment with nonfunctional bis-1,2-[triethoxysilyl]ethane (BTSE) remarkably reduces the adhesion to the alloy because of low compatibility. Nevertheless, the BTSE film provides higher resistance to corrosion than the GPTMS-pretreated coating system, because the former is more hydrophobic and thicker.

Revêtements protecteurs -- DétériorationIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A unified model is presented for the degradation of an organic protective coating on a steel substrate exposed to a neutral electrolytic environment. This model is based on theoretical and experimental studies from our laboratory and on current understanding of the degradation process. The assumptions of the model are based on the concept that degradation of a coating/steel system occurs following the transport of ions through conductive pathways, which are presumably formed by an attack by water in the hydrophylic, low-molecular-weight/low-cross-linked regions, followed by the connections of these regions. Models for the blistering and delamination resulting from corrosion processes are based on the diffusion of cations along the coating/steel interface from the defects to cathodic sites under the coatings. The resulting equations are solved to predict ion fluxes and concentration profiles along the interface and within blisters. Model variables include blister size, distance between blister and defect, ion diffusivity, and potential gradients. Experimental results agree well with theoretical predictions.
Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polymeric composites are widely used to control the corrosion of metal surfaces. Various types of polymer nanocomposites provide better corrosion protection than the neat resins. This paper aims at reviewing some of the protective properties of Tunisian clay (montmorillonite-MMT)/unsaturated polyester (UP/MMT) in 3.5% NaCl. The spin coating technique is applied on metals deposited on a stainless steel surface. The samples are characterized with XRD, TEM and SEM methods. The corrosion performance was estimated by using open circuit potential, polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The UP/OMMT nanocomposites showed the best corrosion protection performance.
