Test d'immersionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This article examines the flaws of the current system of establishing and using specifications and testing. Because these flaws are so odious, a “better way” will be proposed in order to provide the end user real value in the use of protective coatings. Three tests will be discussed as illustrative examples of the flaws in the current system of using specifications and testing. These three tests are accelerated corrosion testing, pull-off adhesion testing, and constant stress, chemical immersion testing. Notwithstanding, this monograph will show how these tests, as examples of testing in general, can be used in a manner that provides the end user real value. Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : It is no secret today that the quest for more environmentally friendly and healthier products is a key preoccupation among a lot of chemical companies. In many cases, regulation constraints have led to reconsider bath technologies and products but certainly not performances.
Coatings particularly is one field in which high performance is required since the function of a coating, outside of the aesthetics, is mainly to protect the substrate it is applied on. Polyurethane coatings, especially two components systems, are very appreciated for their outstanding performances, especially durability and outdoor weatherability. When health and environmental preoccupations started to be at the forefront, 2K polyurethane waterborne coatings became naturally a route to follow, especially to reduce Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the formulations.
The challenge was above all to design waterborne formulations containing polyisocyanates which would be stable, regarding the reaction with water. Such a formulation should provide enough time to enable application and film formation with good end properties. Hydrophilic polyisocyanates were the answer and many synthesis routes were tried, each one having of course, advantages and drawbacks.
In this paper, we will present a study aiming to highlight differences regarding the nature of the hydrophilic polyisocyanates. Latest developments of Vencorex in this field will be also included.Note de contenu : - POLYISOCYANATE : HOW TO MAKE IT HYDROPHILIC ?

The introduction of hydrosilylation cure chemistry into a TFEC-based coating provides excellent physical properties. Fast and low temprature curing can be achieved easily contributing to a potentail reduction in energy consumption, thus lowering processing costs and broadening application areas especially on substrates, which are easily damaged at high fabrication temperatures. Good weatherability derived from the TFEC polymer system was maintained or somewhat improved with the hydrosilylation cure system. In addition several unexpected results - high flexibility and hard film poperties with good unprimed adhesion to many common substrates - were demonstrated. These outlanding properties can significantly broaden the range of applications where this technology could be applied.Note de contenu : - TABLES : 1. Properties of common fluoropolymers - 2.

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this study, synthesized magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles were treated with a corrosion inhibitor, indole-3 butyric acid (IBA) and incorporated in an epoxy-polyamide coating. The coating was applied on a carbon steel substrate. For comparison, coatings without particles or with nontreated Fe3O4 particles were also prepared. The IBA-modified nanomagnetite (IBA–Fe3O4) was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and Zeta potential measurements. The inhibitive action of IBA was shown by electrochemical measurements (polarization curves) performed for a bare carbon steel in 0.1 M NaCl solution containing Fe3O4 or IBA–Fe3O4 nanoparticles. Adherence and anticorrosion properties of the epoxy-based coatings containing Fe3O4 or IBA–Fe3O4 were compared to those of the pure epoxy-polyamide resin by dry and wet adherence measurements and by salt spray test. The results showed significant improvement of the film adherence and higher corrosion protection of the carbon steel in the presence of IBA–Fe3O4. It was concluded that the IBA effect was restricted to the metal/coating interface.
