ZincIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nanographite-zinc particles in various ratios were synthesized by high energy ball milling and dispersed in epoxy based aero grade resins for studying their microwaves absorption in the lower frequency band of 2–9 GHz using a coaxial waveguide measurement system. Morphological characterizations of the synthesized particles showed that shuttle shaped zinc is well embedded on the exfoliated nanographite particles without any agglomeration. The higher interfacial polarization of both the graphite and zinc particles contributes to the excellent electrical conductivity and hence refers it as an ideal microwave absorber in defense applications. The paint with 20% (w/v) loading of nanographite-zinc (1:1 ratio) particles is proficient in providing microwave absorption of − 18.06 dB at 8.19 GHz with a coating thickness of 1.43 mm. Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Sustainable, biodegradable and thermoplastic processable aliphatic polyesters (polybutylene succinate (PBS) and polyethylene succinate (PES)) were prepared and characterized; then, they were grafted onto cellulose micro-fibers using a simple click reaction. This modification was conducted under simple experimental conditions. The characterization (NMR and FTIR analysis), thermal properties, solubility, morphology and biodegradation process of the all products prepared were established and studied. The results show that the solubility of the prepared derivatives is improved in comparison with cellulose, while their thermal stability showed a slight decrease compared to the starting materials. The composites derived from the modified cellulose show a slight decrease in their biodegradability in comparison with that of unmodified cellulose due to several parameters. RhéologieRésumé : The aim of this article is to upgrade the performance of polypropylene/ethylene propylene rubber (PP/EPR) blends by addition of hydrophobic nanosilica (SiR805) and using "high shear processing technology". The morphological developments, mechanical and rheological properties of these composites were investigated as a function of processing conditions. High shear processing has proved to be an efficient process to decrease the size of the dispersed phase (EPR) up to 300 nm and to disperse finely nanosilica particles to less than 30 nm especially at 800 min?1. Moreover, the morphology stability of the nanocomposite is ascribed to the formation of a core shell structure (EPR nodules = core; nano-silica = shell) and selective location of nanosilica at the interface. More importantly, this core-shell structure is favoured to enhance the impact strength of the (PP/EPR)/3 wt% SiR805 nanocomposite. In agreement to the obtained morphology, the improvement (about 60 %) of elongation at break attests a good adhesion between phases due to high shear effect as highlighted by viscoelastic properties. Therefore, high shear processing technology has proved to be a relevant method to prepare nanocomposites with high performances without adding any additive and offers new perspectives for recycling and lightening structures.
Silicique, AcideIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : High silica-alumina coated TiO2 pigment with enhanced dry hiding was prepared by the precipitation method under varying treatment conditions. XRF, TEM, FTIR spectra as well as particle size and surface area analyses were used to characterize the prepared TiO2 samples. The pigmentary properties and performance of the TiO2 samples were evaluated. The hiding power of TiO2 particle surface modified with silica throughout in the moderate acidic range has been found to be significantly increased. At moderate acidic pH range, sodium silicate precursor hydrolyzes to form large number of void-bearing siliceous micelles which anchor on the surface of TiO2 pigment to obtain porous coating layers. It is inferred that this voluminous coating containing network of air voids has contributed to the enhanced dry hiding by promoting spatial relationship among the TiO2 particles. This will reduce the amount of TiO2 pigment required without any change in hiding power of low-gloss, flat coatings formulated at high pigment volume concentration. The inventive TiO2 pigment makes a good dry hide grade quality pigment with good optical properties and ink-stain resistance.
