RéticulantsIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In this investigation, a high-consistency rubber (HCR) was mixed with five different, typically used crosslinking agents that are based on organic peroxide. Furthermore, the amount of crosslinking agent was varied in order to quantify the effect on the mechanical properties. All materials were processed in a hot pressing process, and, subsequently, post-cured. The properties were characterized by the measurement of the swelling ratio, shore A-hardness, rebound resilience and tensile test. We successfully proved that the swelling ratio is a suitable indicator for the evaluation of the crosslinking density of silicone rubber. The results show that the crosslinking density increases as the amount of crosslinking agent increases. The hardness, rebound resilience, and stress at 100% elongation increase as the crosslinking agent does. In contrast, the ultimate elongation decreases as the crosslinking density rises. The absolute values depend on the type of crosslinking agent used. The most commonly used crosslinking agent for high-consistency rubber is Di(2.4-dichlorobenzoyl) peroxide. We were able to verify that there are more possible curing agents based on organic peroxides on the market. Depending on the required properties, customized silicone elastomers could be easily produced. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Preparation - Characterisation

Réticulation (polymérisation)Index. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : "Adhesives are social substances", writes Irving Skiest, author of Handbook of Adhesives. "They unite materials, creating a whole that is greater than the sum of parts." Adhesives bond similar or dissimilar substrates, and growth in the adhesives industry has emanated from its advantages over other joining methods. For an adhesive to bond two substrates, it must: a) wet the substrate, b) chemically bond with the substrate, and c) have good cohesive strength. It is sometimes necessary to incorporate additives to wet the surface and bond with the substrate.
Keep in mind that adhesion is not a property of a material; it depends on many factors, including substrates (mainly the surface, not bulk), surface preparation, adhesive type (chemistry), specimen geometry (joint design), test method and environment. In the case of bonding zinc-coated steel with aluminum, for example, it is the aluminum and zinc surfaces that have to bond, not the steel.
Due to the growing concern over the toxicity of organo-mercury compounds in the environment, there is a universal effort to replace mercury-containing polyurethane (PU) adhesives. Organo-mercury compounds are used as catalysts in PU adhesives. The PU adhesives described in this paper represent 100% solid, two-component (2K) systems.Note de contenu : - FIGURES : 1. Réticulation (polymérisation)Index. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Based on the data reported in this article, metallic coagents such as Saret 633 and Saret 634 can be used to create extremely strong adhesive bonds between a variety of rubbers and untreated metal substrates. Metallic coagents can be readily compounded into the rubber stock where they crosslink into the rubber upon curing with peroxides. Thus, they function as adhesion promoters as well as crosslinkers to enhance both the adhesive and mechanical properties of the cured rubber. In this study, Saret 633 demonstrated out-standing adhesion, but Saret 634 is a good alternative when abrasion resistance and tear strength are needed in addition to adhesion.

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxy-based industrial maintenance coatings «fer excellent chemical and mechanical performance. However, the amine type hardeners often employed can easily react with atmospheric carbon dioxide and moisture to form carbamate salts. These carbamate salts accumulate on the surface and cause blush and intercoat adhesion issues. Adducts based on methylcyclohexyl diamine (MCDA, Baxxodur EC 210), a cycloaliphatic diamine curative for epoxy resin systems, displayed enhanced carbamate stability when compared to adducts based on both isophorone diamine (IPDA) and m-xylylene diamine (MXDA). This behaviour was further validated in coating tests, where coating formulations based on MCDA exhibited superior gloss. The cure behaviour, mechanical properties, and thermal properties of MCDA, IPDA, and MXDA cured systems were also assessed using various analytical techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry and rheology. Overall, MCDA was proven to be an attractive building block for epoxy diamine industrial coating systems.
