Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : High-gloss emulsion paints have always been second-class citizens by comparison with their solvent-borne equivalents. The relatively poor dispersion and stabilisation of TiO2 pigments, typical in current emulsion paints, means that for a given volume of TiO2, emulsion paints have tended towards a lower opacity and gloss compared with that of a long-oil alkyd equivalent paint. RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : With titanium dioxide (TiO2) in short supply, many coatings manufacturers are re-evaluating their paint formulas to optimize TiO2 effectiveness and/or incorporate not-in-kind alternative options for opacity. Applying optical theory to practical paint making leads us to the following conclusions, which will be explored more thoroughly in this article :
1. Incorporating air voids into a coating, either by formulating above critical pigment volume concentration or by using hollow sphere opaque polymers, can provide good dry film optical performance at reduced TiO2 loadings, but the use of air voids constrained by other coating performance parameters.
2. Replacing large extender particles with small extender particles can improve TiO2 light scattering efficiency, allowing some reduction in TiO2 loadings, but this is not likely a result of the smaller extenders preferentially "spacing" the TiO2 particles.
3. Targeted spacing technologies, like the use of highly coated TiO2 products, can improve TiO2 efficiency, allowing a reduction in TiO2 pigment loading in appropriate coating formulations.Note de contenu : - Formulating above critical pigment volume concentration

Although it was discovered in Cornwall, England in 1791, titanium dioxide pigment was not commercially exploited until 1913, when it was created using a fusion technique. Farup and Jebsen developed the Sulphuric acid method, also known as the Sulphate process, in Norway, and commercial production began in 1918. It is stilI the most important component in the synthesis of titanium dioxide pigments. The alternative method, the Chloride procedure, is a more recent invention, with pigments produced by this method first commercialised in 1958. Note de contenu : - Why titanium is more precious ?
