It can actually be the key driver in profitability when incorporating adhesives into a manufacturing process. When done right, adding adhesives to a process can provide much more value than the traditional advantages of better quality, improved aesthetics, expanded design capabilities or improved performance. Adhesives can also reduce labor and floor space requirements while improving throughput.
The changeover to using adhesives as an alternative to other joining methods (e.g., mechanical fasteners, welds, rivets or tapes) can be a low-risk process—if you work with an adhesives supplier that offers a strong support system. Support can come in many forms, but one of the most functional methods is the concept of systems engineering.
In broad terms, systems engineering is a study of the methods by which all system elements are designed, organized, and related to optimize a specific function based on prioritized goals and needs. A successful systems engineer will separate the functional requirements of an application from the manufacturer’s overall needs and goals, and work toward implementing a system that not only meets these functional requirements but maximizes the value to the manufacturer by keeping these pre-defined goals as the focus of the overall system design.
A systems engineer’s knowledge can reduce risk, ensure the conversion to adhesives is done right the first time and address problems before they happen. They can help with equipment selection and setup, design assistance, workflow, and personnel training.Note de contenu : - THE SYSTEMS ENGINEER : Managing culture change - Risk mitigation - Added value

Son objectif est de produire des biens et services tout en limitant fortement la consommation et le gaspillage des matières premières, et des sources d'énergies non renouvelables ;

Construction -- MatériauxIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Adhesives, any substance that is capable of holding materials together in a functional manner by surface attachment that resists separation. "Adhesive" as a general term includes cement, mucilage, glue, and paste—terms that are often used interchangeably for any organic material that forms an adhesive bond.
To ensure adhesion, the adhesive must wet the surface of the adherend. The first basic rule of adhesion is that the adhesive must wet the surface. Second, upon solidification, the adhesive must not, develop internai of residual stress sufficient to disrupt the bond. Solidification generally causes a contraction or shrinkage of the adhesive. If this contraction causes internat stress in the adhesive equal to its tensile strength, an outside force in a similar direction will cause rupture of the joint within the adhesive.
Adhesion is the force of intermolecular attraction evidenced in the phenomena of wetting wherein molecules of adhesive are more attractedto molecules of adherend than to each other. When surfaces are held together by interfacial forces, they are said to show good adhesion. Good adhesion requires very close contact. ln the case of adhesive bonding this is achieved by flow of the adhesive and wetting of the substrate. Adhesion strength is the force required to pull the adhesive clearly from the surface.
This article focuses on adhesives, exploring the various classifications and categories available and explaining their respective characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages.Note de contenu : - Effect of boundary layers
