SiliceLa silice est la forme naturelle du dioxyde de silicium (SiO2) qui entre dans la composition de nombreux minéraux.
La silice existe à l'état libre sous différentes formes cristallines ou amorphes et à l'état combiné dans les silicates, les groupes SiO2 étant alors liés à d'autres atomes (Al : Aluminium, Fe : Fer, Mg : Magnésium, Ca : Calcium, Na : Sodium, K : Potassium...).
Les silicates sont les constituants principaux du manteau et de l'écorce terrestre. La silice libre est également très abondante dans la nature, sous forme de quartz, de calcédoine et de terre de diatomée. La silice représente 60,6 % de la masse de la croûte terrestre continentale.

Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Notre étude traite des procédés d’amélioration des propriétés thermomécaniques et retard au feu (FR) de matériaux polypropylène (PP) utilisés dans la conception de boîtiers électriques. Le premier chapitre concerne l’amélioration des propriétés thermomécaniques via la formulation d’alliages de polymères. Le polycarbonate de bisphénol A (PC) est utilisé comme polymère modifiant dans la matrice PP. Pour améliorer la compatiblité du mélange PP/PC, deux agents compatibilisant sont testés mais les propriétés obtenues sont insuffisantes. L’amélioration de ces propriétés est obtenue par l’utilisation de renforts minéraux. Le second chapitre est consacré aux procédés d’ignifugation des matériaux PP renforcé par des charges minérales (mica, talc ou carbonate de calcium). Deux types d’additifs FR sont testés : un additif phosphoré (APP : polyphosphate d’ammonium) entrant dans la composition de systèmes intumescents, et une série d’additifs bromés. Dans le cas des composites contenant du carbonate de calcium, des interactions entre l’APP et le renfort minéral sont mises en évidence et limitent le processus de développement de la structure thermiquement isolante (char). Les propriétés FR résultantes sont faibles alors que les matériaux composites contenant des dérivés bromés atteignent les performances recherchées. Néanmoins, ces dérivés bromés présentent des problèmes environnementaux. Par conséquent, le dernier chapitre traite des procédés d’ignifugation en surface des matériaux PP composites. Avant application d’une peinture protectrice, les matériaux sont traités par des plasmas de décharge radiofréquence générés à basse pression (O2, Ar, purs ou en mélange). Au travers d’une analyse globale de la topographie, de l’évolution de la composition chimique de surface et de la mouillabilité, nous proposons des mécanismes de réarrangements se produisant à la sur face de la matrice PP. Nous montrons que ces mécanismes conditionnent les propriétés d’adhérence des matériaux traités et diffèrent pour chaque matériau en fonction de leur
