Through the measurement of protein quantity and microscopic observation, this study conducted an authentication of natural leather and the discrimination of the grade of leather ; customers' emotions, sensory characteristics, such as touch sensibility and flexibility were defined through an analysis of the fatiiquoring agent contained in leather. As for visual characteristics, the luxury felt when we look at the leather surface composed of a dense structure was analysed in relation to the pore density of the leather surface, the phenomenon of loose grain or creases was investigated by an analysis of the pores between the fibrous layers of leather and the density. The developed comprehensive analysis technique can enable the development of the optimum material that reflecfs the customer's needs and be widely utilized in improving leather materials through investigating the causes for the problem of quality. The cosmetic industry has evolved and grown considerably in the last 20 years. With it also its consumers, at first mainly interested in what the cosmetic products could do for them, then also moving towards how they represented their values and beliefs. In this article I will share how I see the evolution of cosmetic preservation from my professional experience in the industry.Note de contenu : - The age of innocence

Microbiome cutanéIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Quality seals being precisely defined, transparent and validated could help consumers in their decision making. This applies particularly for new categories of cosmetics e.g. those related to the human skin microbiome
The knowledge on the human skin’s microbiome grows rapidly and a huge number of cosmetic products with ‘microbiome’ claims are now seen on the global market.
Developing a credible and valid quality seal for supporting approved claims on skin microbiome is challenging.
Here we propose standards for a quality seal for cosmetic products claiming to be ‘microbiome friendly’.
We assume that such a claim can be made if: there is no significant change in microbial diversity as measured by e.g. the Shannon Index and there is also no significant dissimilarity between untreated and treated skin as measured by main component analysis (e.g. Unifrac distances); Also, it should be controlled that there is no strong increase or decrease in the abundance of single microbe genera. Further, evaluation of the skin in terms of clinical safety, skin pH and barrier integrity should also be performed.Note de contenu : - Consumer expectations

shampooingsIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : This article will first explore the challenges and limitations of currently available shampoo bar formulations. It will then offer a revolutionary technology which allows improved performance and consumer acceptance, not just for solid shampoos but also for conditioners and other liquid products, instantly dissolving powders, tablets and paper sheets. It offers the persona( care industry the opportunity to re-develop a wide range of existing cosmetic formulations into solid forms.
Shampoo bars and other solid formats are growing in popularity worldwide. The last five years have seen an exponential increase in shampoo bar launches, from around 50 in 2016 to around 700 in 2021. This trend is likely to continue apace due to the unique drivers involved.
Unlike many drivers in our industry, it is clear that sustainability is more than just another fashion trend. The issues are real, widespread and extremely well documented. Furthermore, these issues are not going to go away.
The cosmetics industry is essentially consumer-driven. The needs and wants of the consumer are paramount when developing and marketing new products. In recent years there has been a move away from what has become known as 'greenwashing' towards more ethical considerations. This is, to a large extent, due to a better informed and more environmentally aware consumer base.
The sustainability theme captures a wide range of issues from palm-related deforestation to carbon footprint. It is clear that, currently, shampoo and conditioning bars, powders and tablets offer the consumer a product that ticks a number of boxes : water reduction, reduced carbon footprint and non-plastic packaging to name just a few. They represent a shift away from traditional formulations to a more sustainable and consumer-acceptable range of products.Note de contenu : - Current technology

Millennials are accustomed to instant communication and are familiar with algorithms that make sense of big data. They cannot see why global supply chains are too complex to map. They expect the supply chain maps to be free from unethical practices. In a recent survey of over 10,000 global consumers, 78% found it 'somewhat or very important for a company to be transparent', 70% said that 'these I make it a point to know more about the companies I buy from'. In these uncertain times, brands must earn the trust of their consumers. Note de contenu : - The darker side of supply chains
