RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Extrudate swell of industrial-grade high-molecular mass high-density polyethylenes (HDPEs) in flat/slit dies is studied using both experiments and simulations. The experimental set-up consists of an optical micrometer to measure the extrudate dimensions and a pair of radiation heaters to control the extrudate temperature outside the die attached to the capillary rheometer. The simulation of extrudate swell phenomenon is carried out by using a well-known integral K-BKZ model. The effects of several rheological characteristics, die characteristics, and processing conditions on swell measurements are studied systematically, and the corresponding two-dimensional, steady-state numerical predictions are presented in this paper. This study includes the effects of polymer molecular characteristics, apparent shear rate, die geometrical characteristics (length to die gap (L/H) and width to die gap (W/H)), and distance from the die exit. It is found that the integral K-BKZ model predicts well both the width and thickness extrudate swells. Extrudate swell measurements demonstrate that the thickness swell is predominant in comparison with width swell. The results of Fourier transform IR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering suggested the obtained hybrid particles emerged with trilayer core–shell pattern. Contact angle analysis, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and atom force microscopy results indicated that the hybrid film containing SiO2 NPs showed higher hydrophobicity, lower surface free energy and water absorption, in comparison with the control system (without SiO2 NPs). Compared with the control system, the hybrid latex film containing SiO2 NPs in the fluorinated polyacrylate shell layer showed the higher content of fluorine atoms and a rougher morphology on the film surface. Additionally, thermogravimetric analysis demonstrated the enhanced thermostability of PSQ-based nanosilica composite fluorinated polyacrylate latex film.
Rayonnement ultravioletIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This paper reports the fabrication of double-sided micro-lens arrays using a UV injection molding process. The apparatus for UV injection molding is designed and implemented. Because the double-sided micro-lens array is fabricated using a UV-curable resin, the molds must be transparent. An alignment system is also required to align the cavities. In preparing the transparent molds, the cavities for the concave micro-lens and the alignment marks are first machined on the aluminum block. Using electroforming and hot embossing, transparent polycarbonate (PC) molds that have cavities for the MLAs and the alignment marks are fabricated. The PC molds are mounted on the UV injection molding apparatus using a pneumatic clamp. A real-time optical alignment system that comprises a CCD and an X-Y table is used to align the marks in the upper and lower molds. After alignment, the UV-curable resin is injected into the molds using a pneumatic dispenser. When the resin is cured with UV light, a double-sided micro-lens array is fabricated. The cycle time is 45 s. The respective degrees of replication for a convex and a concave micro-lens array are 99.74 % and 99.00 %. The respective standard deviation values for the diameter and the height are 1.3 μm, and 1.5 μm. The optical properties of the double-sided micro-lens array are measured. The average effective focal length is 1.686 mm, with a standard deviation of 0.007 mm, which demonstrates good formability and uniformity. Using the fabricated micro-lens array, the 1.2 mm diameter of the original light source is reduced to a 50 μm spot diameter. The images of an “A” pattern are complete and clear. This study demonstrates that a UV injection molding process that uses transparent PC molds can be used to fabricate a micro-lens array and other double-sided microstructures. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waterborne epoxy curing agent plays a key part in the waterborne epoxy resin coatings, directly affecting the physical and chemical properties of the coating film. Here, we present triethylene tetramine (TETA), polypropylene glycol diglycidyl ether (PPGDGE), epoxy resin E20 and phenyl glycidyl ether (PGE) as reactants to fabricate a novel nonionic self-emulsifiable waterborne epoxy curing agent for oily epoxy resin through three steps of chain extension reaction, addition reaction, and capping reaction. The curing agent achieved excellent emulsifying and curing properties under the condition that TETA reacted with PPGDGE at 65°C for 4 h with the molar ratio of 2.2:1, 40% primary amine was added with E20 at 65°C for 3 h and 125% residual primary amine was capped with PGE at 65°C for 3 h. The as-prepared waterborne epoxy curing agent was characterized by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and surface tension. The cured film of emulsified oily epoxy resin (E51) prepared by the as-prepared curing agent indirectly was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry tests. The 2K waterborne epoxy coating film prepared by the as-prepared nonionic self-emulsifiable curing agent and E51 displayed better thermal property, surface appearance, flexibility, impact resistance, adhesion, and chemical corrosion resistance. The differential photocalorimetry experiment showed these monomers polymerized within 120 s under UV irradiation, indicating a very good curable property. The excellent antibacterial activity of these coatings, which reached up to 99.8% ratio against Escherichia Coli, was demonstrated by a shake flask test method.
