Trisodium nitrilotriacétateIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : This paper presents results on the use of trisodium nitrilo triacetate, a biodegradable alkaline organic salt, for pad–steam dyeing of cotton with reactive dyes as a replacement for conventionally used inorganic electrolyte and alkali. Two widely used dyes, CI Reactive Red 147 and CI Reactive Blue 250, were used in the study. The colour yield, dye fixation and ultimate colour fastness achieved by using trisodium nitrilo triacetate were closely comparable with those obtained by using inorganic electrolyte and alkali. The tensile breaking force and wrinkle recovery angle of the dyed fabrics were also measured and were slightly improved when using organic salt. Additionally, the dyeing effluent showed reductions in total dissolved solids content with trisodium nitrilo triacetate. Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : The thermal, tensile and other properties of high density polyethylene films containing iron (III) acetylacetonate as pro-oxidant additive have been studied after exposure to UV irradiation for up to 300?h. The effect of photooxidation on polyethylene films with and without pro-oxidant was estimated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, Differential scanning calorimeter measurements and the tensile properties. It was observed that UV irradiation had almost no effect on the melting temperature of the different samples. After exposure, the degree of crystallinity increased from 69% to 72% for the initial polyethylene samples without pro-oxidant additive and by 3% for the samples containing iron (III) acetylacetonate. It was found that the increase in the carbonyl index of initial HDPE was not significant even after 60?h exposure to UV irradiation while samples with pro-oxidant suffered substantial degradation still for 35?h. It was observed that the decrease of the tensile strength is more pronounced for the samples with pro-oxidant under irradiation for 60 to 70?h. The films containing pro-oxidant lose ?90% of its initial elongation at break after 35?h exposure. Note de contenu : - Materials

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The mechanical, thermal and dielectric properties of lanthanum manganite (LaMnO3) epoxy nanocomposites reinforced with silane coated E-glass fiber are reported. Structural and morphological characteristics of the LaMnO3, synthesized by the solution combustion method, were studied via X-ray diffraction, EDAX and scanning electron microscopy. LaMnO3/epoxy composites containing various percentages of LaMnO3 (LME) were prepared via hand lay-up method and tested for tensile, flexural and impact strength. Improved properties were obtained with the addition of LME compared to plain epoxy composites. The thermal stability of the composites remains almost unaltered by the filler loading. Variation in the dielectric characteristics with filler loading is attributed to the percolation of charge carriers due to the interfacial zonal overlapping in the nanocomposite resulting in a change of the dielectric characteristics. Transition vitreuseIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The present work was focused on studying the effects of different CB loadings on the rheological, thermal, tensile, dynamic mechanical and electrical properties of polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF) and FKM composites. To these ends, the CB grade and method chosen for compound preparation were CB (N330) and melt mixing, respectively. The composites were melt blended with CB at 190 °C in an internal mixer, after which the properties of filled and unfilled composites were compared. The presence of CB improved the mechanical properties, such as the Young's modulus and tensile strength, and increased thermal stability given the high thermal stability of CB and the interaction between the CB particles and the polymer matrices. The dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) showed the glass transition temperatures of the composites. The analysis also revealed that the area under the loss tangent (tan δ) peak decreased and that the tan δ temperature of the rubber phase increased with CB loading. The increase in the electrical conductivity of the composites under different CB loadings was also examined, and the percolation threshold of conductive thermoplastic vulcanizate composite based on conductive CB was observed. The effect of CB and its content on rheological behavior of the PVDF/FKM blends was studied and the experimental data was correlated by a physical model named General Equation Model (GEM). A relation between rheology and conductivity of the blends with filler percolation was found.
