SilicatesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A new class of silicone has been developed for coatings or as coating additives. Cycloaliphatic silane monomers were prepared and reacted into more easily handled cyclic oligomers. These cyclic oligomers were ring-opened into siloxane polymers. The polymers were functionalized with a variety of groups, including: amino, glycidyl epoxide, cyclohexene epoxide, acrylic, and alkoxysilane. The cycloaliphatic silicones have been designed for a number of different curing conditions: (1) ambient temperature-cure (amino and glycidyl epoxide), (2) cationic ultraviolet (UV)-cure (cyclohexene epoxide), (3) radical UV-cure (acrylic), and (4) moisture-cure (alkoxysilane). The end usages thus far have been focused on silicone coatings; however, usage as coating additives will be a focus for future research. The cycloaliphatic silicone has been UV-cured with mixed sol–gel precursors for usage as aerospace coatings. The cycloaliphatic silicones have also been ambient temperature-cured for release coatings, and have application as anti-fouling coatings. The inherent low surface energy makes the cycloaliphatic silicones prime candidates for surface tension additives.

Stabilisants (chimie)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author discusses the development of Disperbyk-2155, which provides a high molecular weight for stabilisation and solids content.
Due to its innovative sphere-like structure, Disperbyl-2155 combines high molecular weight with high solids content, therefore opening up new horizons in the wetting and dispersing of pigments in high solid as weel as in conventional coating systems. It displays outstanding deflocculation and stabilisation properties, effectively reducing mill base viscosity, is storage-stable and shows wide compatibility with many different types of resin systems. The next generation polyurethane wetting and dispersing additive Disperbyk-2155 is designed to be used in pigment concentrates for automotive coatings, floor coatings (based on polyurethane and epoxy), polyurethane foams and thanks to its 100% solids content also for solvent-free UV systems. In addition, the additive has been successfully used in co-grinding systems.Note de contenu : - Pigment stabilisation in high solid systems

Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Alkyd resins have proven themselves both from a cost and performance point of view over a wide range of coatings applications such as architectural finishes, industrial metal, and agricultural/ construction equipment. Since alkyd paints are solventborne, they contribute to our societal VOC emissions. Increasing concerns regarding ground level ozone and indoor air quality have spurred R&D investment to find alternative technologies or approaches directed at lowering VOC emissions without compromising performance. This has proven to be a major challenge for the industry as a whole. The key issue is reformulating solvent-borne paints to be as low as possible in VOC while still delivering—or surpassing—expected performance benchmarks. Note de contenu : - High solids alkyd systems
