(Wikipedia)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The method of preparing polyolefin foam with good flame retardancy, thermal stability, and physical and mechanical properties was investigated. Foaming condition of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) was investigated with triphenyl phosphate (TPP) as plasticizer, NaHCO3 as foaming agent. The influence of modified expandable graphite (EGP) and ammonium polyphosphate (II) on foam density, compression strength, combustion characteristics and thermal stability was explored. Results verified that EGP presented better dilatability and flame retardancy than the normal expandable graphite. Addition of EGp improved the limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 15NaHCO3/100 LLDPETPP/30EGp foam from 18.8% to 24.6%. Furthermore, the combination of EGp and ammonium polyphosphate (II) (APP) at the mass ratio of 2:1 improved the LOI of 15NaHCO3/100 LLDPETPP/20EGp/10APP sample to 27.9%, and the vertical burning UL-94 level reached V-0, indicating that this material was flame retardant. Although these additives made 15NaHCO3/100 LLDPETPP/20EGp/10APP composite exhibit a high density of 142.5 kg m−3, which was increased by 12.3 wt% relative to the 15NaHCO3/100 LLDPETPP foam, it could improve the compressive strength to 0.4747 MPa, which was about 2.7 times that of the matrix. The thermal stability of the material was also enhanced. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Raw materials - Sample preparation - Measurement and characterization of different properties

The application of gas into the mold cavity during the melt injection period provides a counter force against the melt front advancement, restricting the foaming process during the melt filling stage. Various gas counter pressures from 0 bar up to 300 bar and gas holding times of 0 to 10 s after filling completion were employed for investigating their relevant effect. It was found that when gas counter pressure is greater than 100 bar, foaming does not appear in the skin layer if no holding time is applied after melt-filling. As gas counter pressure increases, thickness of the solid skin layer without foaming also increases. Employment of holding time after melt-filling also assists foaming restriction in the melt core area. If a holding time of 10 s is applied combined with a counter pressure greater than 100 bar, foaming is completely restricted resulting in a transparent PS sample part. The part surface of those subjected to foaming-restriction in the skin layer also appears to be smooth and glossy. For the black PS parts molded via microcellular injection combined with gas counter pressure, it appears the same gloss quality as that achieved by conventional injection molding. Polyéthylène téréphtalateIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : In recent decades, there has been a number of rapid improvements in wind turbine blade manufacturing, driven by costs, cycle time and quality issues. The value propositions for new and emerging technology are enabling wind industry evolution. However, when reviewing the history of wind blade technologies, it is clear that the small evolutions may turn significantly disruptive to the industry. To keep up with the trends of the evolving industry, it is crucial to understand the past developments and identify potential new technologies arising in the next five to ten years. Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) has been fabricated and modified by hydrolyzed keratin to improve its flame retardancy and smoke suppression. Then, the limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimeter (CONE), thermogravimetric analyzer and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to characterize the modified RPUFs. It was found that the LOI of the modified RPUFs increased with the presence of hydrolyzed keratin. In addition, the peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR) of the modified RPUF tended to decrease. The HRR of RPUF-HK5 reduced 28.8 kW/m2 compared with RPUF-0, and the THR of RPUF-HK5 was 0.74 MJ/m2 lower than that of RPUF-0. RPUF-HK5 had the most obvious smoke suppression effect. Compared with RPUF-0, the smoke density (Ds) and light transmittance (T) of RPUF-HK5 decreased by 8.88 and increased by 11.26%, respectively. The current research results showed that hydrolyzed keratin can improve the flame-retardant and smoke-suppression performances of RPUFs and that 5 wt% hydrolyzed keratin was the most suitable ratio for the modified RPUF.
