Polyéthylène basse densitéIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Studies to improve the machining of engineering materials have great importance for mechanical systems. Abrasive water-jet turning (AWJT) is a new and effective process for increasing machinability of engineering materials by providing temperature free cutting conditions, high surface quality and having no tool wear problem. In this study, AWJT of low density polyethylene (LDPE) material were investigated in terms of average surface roughness (ASR) and material removal rate (MRR) values and process parameters were optimized by experimental design method. The primary objectives of the study are to investigate AWJT process and system parameters to enhance machinability of LDPE material and to determine optimal processing parameters. Nozzle feed rate (5, 25 and 45 mm/min), abrasive flow rate (50, 200 and 350 g/min) and spindle speed (1 000, 1 500 and 2 500 min?1) were analyzed as process parameters. Taguchi L27 orthogonal full factorial design, optimization box and analysis of variance (Anova) were used for the experimentation and results analysis. Experimental results show that, AWJT process is more efficient in the machining of LPDE material than the conventional machining methods by increasing surface quality and MRR parameters. Minimum ASR and maximum MRR were obtained 1.67 ?m and 14 072.02 mm3/min respectively; at optimum parameters of 5 mm/min nozzle feed rate, 350 g/min abrasive flow rate and 2 500 min?1 spindle speed. Polymères en médecineIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In recent years, a novel low molecular weight hypromellose (hypromellose 2906, VLV hypromellose) was developed to improve tablet-coating process and lower costs in the pharmaceutical industry. Such VLV hypromellose imparted economic, environmental, and performance benefits to the coating process and final products. However, there were still some concerns about this polymer in regard to weak mechanical strength of films and resultant stability issues of film coatings on tablets. In this study, a tablet-coating formulation was optimized using Box–Behnken design via blending conventional hypromellose with VLV hypromellose to achieve balanced coating performance in terms of highly productive coating, no sticking issues under mild coating conditions, and robust tablet film coatings in an accelerated stability study. By addition of only 5 wt% of conventional hypromellose (3.35 wt% HPMC E50 and 1.65 wt% HPMC E3), the film elongation and toughness index of optimized VLV hypromellose formulation increased by 154% and 372%, respectively, while the solution viscosity was still suitable for spray coating. The results of the following tablet-coating trials and stability study revealed that the stability and quality of tablet film coatings were significantly improved using this optimized VLV hypromellose-coating formulation, while a highly productive coating process and mild coating conditions without "sticking" issues were maintained simultaneously to the utmost extent. Index. décimale : 620.19 Autres matériaux Résumé : Cost-effective processing of thermoplastic composites has made them increasingly relevant for use in structural and high-performance applications. Welding contributes to reducing manufacturing costs and overcomes some of the drawbacks of traditional composite joining techniques. In ultrasonic welding, heat is generated through surface and intermolecular friction caused by ultrasonic vibration transferred through the material. Several parameters are involved in the welding process, affecting energy, time, power consumption and the quality of the weld. An optimization was carried out for melting time, welding power and single-lap shear strength of the welds. Design of experiments (DoE) was used in order to reduce the number of tests needed for the optimization. An initial study was carried out, defining the tendencies of these responses as well as plausible parameter limits for the designed experiment. Note de contenu : - Threshold for the DoE
