Polyéthylène glycolIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Bio resources are finding increasing applications in our day-to-day activities. Current research on the active ingredients of plant/fruit extracts has several applications. To widen their applications in various fields, suitable biocompatible carriers are needed which would increase the shelf life of the extracts. In this work, one such biocompatible carrier for encapsulation has been developed using PEG-Sodium alginate as a complex which will act as a model for any natural product extract viz., Citrus sinensis peel. The extract has been studied for its radical and nitrite scavenging activity, inhibition of ?-carotene bleaching and lipid peroxidation assay, before and after encapsulation in order to quantify the antioxidant activity in presence of the carrier. From the experimental results, better encapsulation of the antioxidant have been observed with increasing molecular weight of PEG, up to 8000 Da which led to an increased shelf life and sustained release. Antioxidant-PEG-8000-SA, 20:2:1 (APS-8000) mixture has been optimized and used for preservation of goatskin. The dehydration, rehydration and hydroxyproline assays reveal that, APS-8000 would be better alternative for the conventional sodium chloride preservation. ToxicologieIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Many companies and brands have developed Restricted Substances Lists (RSLs) with the intention to direct their suppliers in the production of safe, sustainable and legally compliant products. In their regular reviews, re-assessments and updates more and more companies are correcting upwards the limits for 2-phenylphenol (OPP) on their RSLs. Also the worldwide known test mark SG-Label of TÜV Rheinland and Prüf- und Forschungsinstitut Pirmasens have re-evaluated their lirait for OPP and increased it. OPP is one of the most safe and sustainable actives to preserve leather and will be reviewed. By A Weckmann and Dr M Kleban, Lanxess Note de contenu : - Biodegradability

Température de retraitIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Curing of hides and skins using sodium salt is a well-established and economical preservation technique worldwide. But it contributes to generating a large amount of total dissolved solids (TDS) and increasing the salinity of water during leather processing which is a threat to the environment. The current research is an attempt to preserve goat skin using mahogany (Swietenia mahogany) seed’s extract. In real practice different percentages of mahogany seed extract were applied on raw goat skin and 3% (by weight of skin) of it showed best result. To evaluate the preservation efficiency, related parameters of preservation viz. odor, hair slip, shrinkage temperature, moisture content, bacterial count etc. were monitored regularly for 30 days. The obtained results were compared with conventional salt curing process. The experimental trial showed efficiency in lessening TDS value and chloride content. The preserved goat skins of both trials were treated following conventional leather processing techniques and physical properties were studied. The discussed preservation method exhibited comparable result in every index. Titre : Salt must go !
