Simulation par ordinateurIndex. décimale : 677.4 Textiles artificiels Résumé : Ceramic fibers for high-tech applications require intensive developments concerning precursor synthesis and fiber spinning. The spinning process starts at laboratory scale with only few filaments and needs to be upscaled to pilot plant and industrial scale with hundreds or even thousands of fila-ments. Due to the significant interaction of filaments and surrounding inert atmosphere, the behavior in the spinning tower completely changes with higher numbers of filaments. How these effects are incorporated in a model of the gas flow including its influence by the filament spinning will be de-scribed. In 2 examples for melt- and dry-spinning of ceramic fibers it will be demonstrated how characteristic properties derived from experiments on a laboratory scale can be efficiently transferred to a pilot plant scale by use of simulations. For both applications the spinning tower was built according to the conditions derived from the simulation results, and experimentally proven to work. At the heart of the so-called Ultralitec process are 3-D preforms made from UD tapes, which are consolidated in situ and combined with an injection molding process for integrating functions. The process is completely automated, including layup and transfer of the delicate preform. Note de contenu : - A wide range of thermoplastic composites

Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10203

PlasticitéIndex. décimale : 620.1 Mécanique de l'ingénieur (mécanique appliquée) et matériaux Résumé : Computer based design using damage mechanics is thought about as a new methodology to replace tests and help deriving realistic while simple new rules for Aeronautic Certification of composite structures. Numerical methods and models must then be robust and predictive. Three different computational strategies are developed and compared : a Cohesive Model (CM), a Continuous Damage Material model coupling failure modes and damage (CDM), a Mixed Methodology (MM) using the CDM for delamination initiation and the CM for 3D crack propagation and mesh openings. The CDM model is used to simulate the impact of a composite blade on a composite fuselage section and to predict the CAI behavior of samples up to fracture. Comparisons with experiments are discussed. Note de contenu : - INTRODUCTION : Purpose and limits of this chapter - Topics and issues addressed

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : The aim of this study was to evaluate various optimization strategies to be used with computational fluid dynamics (CFD), in order to optimize the geometry for a polymer die to meet the dual objectives of uniform flow at the exit with minimal pressure drop. 3D finite element simulations using the numerically optimized geometry predict a more uniform flow than simulations using the baseline geometry. However, some of the initial optimized results yielded die geometries that would be impractical to fabricate. Additional constraints were placed on the allowable geometric parameters and solution space to push the optimization towards more feasible optimal solutions. Thus we have shown how CFD-based optimization methods, coupled with knowledge of die design technology and fabrication techniques can lead to the design of better performing polymer dies.
