Résistance à la déchirureIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : An appropriate tear strength is one of the main properties that concern customers and it is also a significant source of claims. The authors make a review of the production process, focusing on each step that can either damage the natural strength of collagen fibers or improve them and therefore, the leather. Although the authors’ experience is in bovine hides, the general concepts presented in this paper may be applied to other types of hides and skins.
The aim of this work is to transfer field tannery experiences collected over 40 years of activity in different tanneries, to colleagues that are looking for world class leather production.Note de contenu : - 1.0 COLLAGEN AS RAW MATERIAL : Collagen and fibers - Fibers mechanical properties - Collagen types - Species - Bovine hides - Vertical fiber defect, VFD

Stress oxydatifIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : - Objective : Iontophoresis is defined as the use of electric current to drive molecules across cell membranes through an electrolyte solution. In therapeutic context, it is used to facilitate the administration of bioactive substances, either systemically or locally. The technique presents various advantages and that is why it has been successfully used by a plethora of medical sciences. The constantly developing field of dermato-cosmetic science has also taken advantage of the possibilities offered by iontophoresis, aiming to enhance the delivery of the applied active ingredients and, thus, induce the desired cosmetic effects.
- Methods : The available literature was examined for evidence-based reports of safe and successful iontophoresis of pharmaceutical and cosmetic substances, in order to explore different iontophoretic applications in the field of dermato-cosmetic and dermato-aesthetic sciences.
- Conclusion : Iontophoresis can be safely and successfully used in the treatment of ageing, photoageing, hyperpigmentation, oxidative stress, hair loss, hair removal, acne, acne sequelae and cellulite, providing many possibilities for enhanced treatment results.Note de contenu : - MECHANISM OF ACTION OF IONTOPHORESIS

Sulfate de dermataneIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The article presents the final research into the system containing NaOH, Na2S, and a salt such as NaCl, Na2SO4 or Na2HPO4 and their influence on the properties of pelt and leather. Here are two main pointsof the investigations : the establishment of dermatan sulphate changes during unhairing and the microscopy investigation.
It was established that the unhairing method influences the amount of dermatan sulphate in pelt. The method for dermatan sulphate determination was developed and used in this research. The results show that a strongly alkaline action does not increase the removal of dermatan sulphate.
As collagen’s chemical and physical changes could be reflected in its structure, optical and scanning electron microscopy analyses of pelt and leather grain and corium were carried out. The micrographs show that the structure of pelt and leather depends on the unhairing method and it differs-differences in opening-up level are observed. These differences are clearly visible and depend on the method of unhairing. The microscopy images confirm the importance of the role of salts, which are added to the unhairing system NaOH+Na2S.Note de contenu : - Improvement of dermatan sulphate determination

StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Sodium aluminate as an alternative to calcium hydroxide was tested in the hide unhairing process and the possibility of such replacement was confirmed. Qualitative unhairing is achieved using water solution containing sodium aluminate 2–3% and sodium sulphide 1.3–1.5%. The effect on collagen during unhairing using the sodium aluminate is significantly less than that of conventional liming. An addition of 0.5% NaOH allows better opening up of the derma to be obtained. Industrial trials of lime-free unhairing using sodium aluminate have shown that the leather produced meets the quality requirements for shoe upper leathers. Lime-free unhairing using sodium aluminate leads to less pollution of wastewater by TSS, Kjeldhal nitrogen and sulphides. Note de contenu : - Raw material

TannageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The continuous development of leather substitutes, including poromerics and coated fabrics, the increased price of hides, greater quantities of shoe imports, and, finally, the considerably higher cost of U.S. labor have forced American tanners to re-evaluate completely their tannery concepts. Today, to be competitive with European and other foreign tanneries, South American, for instance, we must have modern processes providing higher productivity and better leather quality.
Therefore, most of the larger tanneries are now involved in rationalizing their production, and in simplifying and modernizing their processes. Some years ago, a two-day beamhouse lime split process, followed by a bate-pickle-and-chrome-tan run in drums, over a period of 15 to 17 hours, would be considered a classical procedure. In the meantime, however, almost all tanneries have attempted to shorten their processes and at the same time change their system to blue splitting.Note de contenu : - Rapid unhairing processes
