Test d'immersionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In order to improve the corrosion resistance of a biodegradable magnesium alloy, a series of phytic acid/3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (γ-APS) hybrid coatings was prepared on AZ31 magnesium alloys by dipping the magnesium alloy into the mixing solution of phytic acid and γ-APS. During the preparation of hybrid coatings, the pH values of the mixing solutions greatly affected the uniformity of the coatings and subsequently influenced their corrosion resistance. Electrochemical tests indicated that the hybrid coating prepared in the solution of pH = 8.0 could highly improve corrosion resistance of AZ31 magnesium alloys. Meanwhile, corrosion current density of the hybrid coating coated sample was significantly decreased from the uncoated sample of 138.1 ± 11.9 to 8.5 ± 0.8 μA cm−2. Immersion test in simulated body fluid revealed that the cracks on the surface of the hybrid coating gradually healed up during the lengthy immersion.

Revêtement autoréparant:Peinture autocicatrisanteIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polymers & polymeric composites are susceptible to formation of stress induced micro cracks during their service life, which often goes un-noticed during initial stages. Subsequent progression of micro-cracks to macro scale results in catastrophic failures of polymer coatings & composites. Timely detection and filling of micro-cracks will go a long way in ensuring the service life of surface coatings apart from reducing maintenance resources. Self healing functionality in surface coatings significantly reduces the probability of catastrophic failures by filling (healing) micro cracks as and when they form or immediately afterwards. This article reviews the various approaches towards self-healing functionality in surface coatings including some of the recent advancements which are potentially promising. Revêtement autoréparantIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Researchers at MIT have found that an ultra-thin layer of aluminium oxide, though solid, can flow like a liquid instead of cracking.
A solid oxide protective coating for metals can, when applied in sufficiently thin layers, deform as if it were a liquid, filling any cracks and gaps as they form.
The thin coating layer should be especially useful to prevent leakage of tiny molecules that can penetrate through most materials, such as hydrogen gas that could be used to power fuel-cell cars, or the radioactive tritium (a heavy form of hydrogen) that forms inside the cores of nuclear power plants.
Most metals, with the notable exception of gold, tend to oxidise when exposed to air and water. This reaction, which produces rust on iron, tarnish on silver and verdigris on copper or brass, can weaken the metal over time and lead to cracks or structural failure. But there are three known elements that produce an oxide that can actually serve as a protective barrier to prevent any further oxidation: aluminium oxide, chromium oxide and silicon dioxide.Note de contenu : - Environmental transmission electron microscope used

ZincIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Zinc-rich coatings are used in a wide range of industries to protect steel substrates in extremely corrosive environments. However, with exposure to a corrosive environment over time, the zinc particles corrode to form a non-conductive oxide layer around the particles, decreasing the sacrificial protective capability of the coating.
