Transition vitreuseIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Polypropylene (PP)/ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM)/ graphene nanosheets (GNs) were compounded by a two-step melt mixing process via an internal mixer (brabender plasticorder). The effect of GNs, graphene oxide (GOSs) and graphene oxide functionalized with PP chains (PP-g-GOSs) on various blend properties were investigated. Wide X-ray diffraction (WAXD) patterns and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of the prepared nanocomposites revealed that the nanofillers were mostly dispersed into the PP phase and the dispersion state of GNs was improved with functionalization of graphene. SEM photomicrographs indicated that rubber droplets were distributed in the PP phase and a reduction of the dispersed EPDM droplet size was observed most likely due to increase in the viscosity of the PP-phase during melt mixing. The effects of nanofillers on thermal, mechanical and rheological properties were reported, and the obtained results were discussed in terms of morphology, state of dispersion and distribution of the nanofillers within the PP matrix. As for the mechanical properties, an improvement of 56% in tensile modulus and 48% in tensile strength, while 72% reduction in elongation at break was observed. The DMTA results revealed that the nanocomposites based on PP-g-GOSs had lower damping behavior and the intensity of the loss factor decreased by increasing the GNs content. These results indicate the presence of a strong interfacial interaction between the nanoplatelets and the polymer matrix. PolypropylèneIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : The microcellular foamed polypropylene (PP)/mica composites were prepared through chemical microcellular injection to investigate the relationship between the mechanical behavior and the cell size. The mechanical behavior model of the microcellular foams is built based on the elastic stress/strain field. The mechanical behavior of the microcellular composites coincides well with the theoretical model. Under loading the large and non uniform cells are in a state of plane strain, which leads to low tensile and impact strengths, whereas small and uniform cells are in a state of plane stress, which contributes to the transition from brittle to tough fracture behavior in the microcellular PP/mica composite. Produits de nourriture du cuirIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : As a kind of by-product of leather manufacture, split generally exhibits weak mechanical strengths due to its loose weave structure of collagen fibres. The in-situ polymerization of acrylate monomers has proved to be an effective approach to reinforce the network structure of split in our previous work. However, the split has to be dehydrated by organic solvents so that hydrophobic monomers are able to penetrate into the fibre network and then polymerize in-situ. This process is complicated and may lead to the discharge of effluent containing organic solvents. In fact, traditional fatliquoring process imparts hydrophobicity to leather to some extent. In this study, chrome tanned split was firstly fatliquored and dried into trust. Then n-butyl-methacrylate(nBMA) was directly added into the crust split by drumming. After complete absorption of the monomer, Poly(n-butyl-methacrylate) (PnBMA)/split composite was easily prepared through hot pressing. The mechanical properties of the modified composite were measured to evaluate the reinforcing effect on split. The results suggested that the fatliquoring agents made of natural yolk provided the appropriate hydrophobicity for spin, and thus benefited the subsequent polymerization. The composite with the addition of 20% fatliquoring agent and 50% nBMA showed the best mechanical properties. Hot pressing conditions were optimized to be heated at 65°C for 60 minutes, The tensile strength and tear strength of the PnBMA/split composite prepared at optimum conditions are 37.25N/mm2 and 262.44N/mm, respectively. As a result, the reinforced split is expected to meet the requirement for producing most of leather products with high value-added.
