Due to a strong correlation between conductivity and morphology of PEDOT:PSS films and the latter’s dependency on the processing step itself, we apply slot die coating for maximized process control and systematically evaluate the impact of coating gap, speed, and film thickness. Since the entire coating and drying process is run in batch mode, the setup is optimized regarding steady-state conditions and high homogeneity of the films. Overall, for the films manufactured in batch mode, we obtain a reproducibility film thickness of 99% and a low deviation from the set film thickness (below 8%). In order to analyze the impact of the coating parameters, stable operating points derived from the viscocapillary model are chosen and either the dimensionless gap or the capillary number is varied. Coating gap and film thickness emerged as dominating parameters, leading to an increase in conductivity of 40% and 70%, respectively, or, when changing both simultaneously, of 157%. Only a minor impact of shear forces (increase of 10%) was found. Procédés de fabricationIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Selective deposition of patterned films, without masks or subtractive postprocessing steps, can potentially be achieved by extending the capabilities of traditional slot coating. Realization of a fully additive-only approach of this nature will elevate the viability of slot coating for numerous emerging technologies such as flexible optoelectronic devices, sensors, and wearables. In this study, we develop a process model for slot coating of variable-width narrow stripes, as a fundamental and representative pattern feature for patterned slot coating. Our process model addresses the sensitivity of stripe output to fluid deposition rate, substrate speed, and coating gap for a given coating material. To explain the observed process behavior, we distinguish between separate configurations of contact line pinning of the liquid bridge at the coating tool surface and show experimentally how these configurations relate to regimes in the process model that must be characterized separately. We also demonstrate how the geometry of the liquid bridge and range of intermediate contact angles along its contact line correspond to observed hysteresis of the coated stripe width. Titre : Searching for a better dibenzoate solution : A new non-phthalate benzoate plasticizer product could satisfy the current needs of the adhesives industry Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Emily McBride, Auteur ; William D. Arendt, Auteur Année de publication : 2011 Article en page(s) : p. 23-27 Note générale : Bibliogr.

The results of this evaluation indicate that K-Flex 850S, which has been tailored to provide the value demanded as a non-phthalate alternative, provides both the value and the performance characteristics required for the adhesive market. In addition, it is in line with today’s stricter environmental and health standards.
Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Formulation - Study design - Biometric parameters - Statistical analysis

ThermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A novel coating material on paperboard and fiberboard from poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) modified with Tung oil was developed. The PVA/Tung oil coating was cured at several conditions: 25, 40, 50, and 60°C, in the presence of two types of catalysts, i.e., thermal catalyst using potassium persulfate (KPS) and redox catalyst using KPS and sodium thiosulfate. The chemical crosslinked structure of PVA/Tung oil-coating films was confirmed by FTIR. The result indicated the decrease in the double bonds of Tung oil by crosslinking reaction, especially at 60°C. In comparison with the same curing temperature, the films with redox catalyst showed more reduction in the number of double bonds of Tung oil. DMA results of the PVA/Tung oil-coating materials with redox catalyst showed the lowering of the heights of both β transition peak of Tung oil and α transition peak of PVA. FTIR and DMA results confirmed the more efficient crosslinking reaction of redox catalytic system than that of the thermal catalytic system. The water resistance and mechanical properties of these coating materials exhibited better values as projected to higher curing temperature and redox catalyst. SEM images showed the smooth surface of PVA/Tung oil covered on the paperboards with ~72 µm in thickness. The contact angle of water or oil drop and dynamic change in contact angle on the surfaces of PVA/Tung oil-coated paperboards and fiberboards were investigated. The results show the contact angles for both water and oil were lower than those of the uncoated ones, indicating the improvement of water and oil affinities of the PVA/Tung oil-coating materials. The dynamic changes in contact angle of the coated ones also decreased, suggesting the reduction in water and oil absorption rates of these coated substrates.
