RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Cosmetic formulations consist of complex ingredient mixtures. The nature of these ingredients does not always allow for simple mixing. Oil and water as two phases of an emulsion can be mixed but cannot be kept stable as a mixture without the help of an emulsifier and the right mixing equipment.
A number of stirrers, homogenisers and process mixers are available, but which equipment can be used best for a specific formulation development? Stirrers providing lamellar flow or turbulent flow have different geometries. When is high shear needed and when is low shear needed? What role does the homogeniser play? The emulsification is the outcome of two processes: breaking of the oil phase into small drops and the stabilisation of the formed drops. The initial particle size distribution of an emulsion is the result of both steps. The particle size distribution plays a critical role for the emulsion stability, but how can the particle size distribution be determined and which particle size will provide a stable emulsion? The viscosity of the emulsion and the rheological properties are dependent on the particle size distribution. Emulsions can be fluid like milk and viscous like toothpaste. Both emulsion types should be easily applicable to skin. Mixing of complex mixtures seems easier than it really is. However, with just some background information of the effect good mixing equipment can provide, the mixing process becomes a sensible tool rather than a threat and it leads to stable formulations.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10363

Produits antisolairesIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Sun care products have evolved considerably in the part years. Also called intelligent protections, they offer many other advantages than just UV protection and are adapted to the consumers' urban, leisure and extreme lifestyle conditions. At the same time, the high SPF formulations bring new challenges in terms of product protection because of the high oil content of the formulations. Indeed, conventional preservatives are under constant scrutiny and formulators need to be increasingly creative by incorporating innovative product protection molecules in their formulations to limit the proliferation of microbial contaminants. Phenoxyethanol, benzyl alcohol, hydroxacetophenone, pentylene glycol and caprylyl glycol are some of the important ingredients in the toolbox for the formulators to support them for this purpose. Phenoxyethanol and benzyl alcohol are two commonly used preservatives in cosmetics. In sun care products, hydroxyacetophenone contributes to the antioxidant properties of the formulations and 1,2-alkanediols such as pentylene glycol and caprylyl glycol act as moisturizers while improving the aesthetics of the formulations. At the correct dosage, these versatile ingredients play a key rote in modern product protection. Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Molecules used for modern protection

Note de contenu : - METHOD : Materials - Sample preparation - MRI study - Microscopic observation - Data analysis
