TannageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The aim of the present work is to develop a dehydration process for ovine hide to obtain a new collagenous material for use in the leather industry. What is obtained through this new process is a dry and very porous collagenous substrate which allows the application of tanning chemicals by immersion in aqueous solutions. When compared to existing, traditional processes, economic and environmental advantages are obtained from the use of this new material. More specifically, the new process results in reductions in water use (18%), chemical use (39%), and process time (11%). TannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Three types of humic acids of different sources have been analysed in order to quantify the functional groups that may be liable to react with the proteins of leather. The quantification serves to determine the extent to which each of these acids be used as tanning or retanning agents. The three types of humid acids have been compared mathematically according to their content with the aforementioned functional groups. Humic acids have structures similar to those of vegetable tannins. Note de contenu : - INTRODUCTION : Current situation - Tanning capacity of humic acids

TannageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This study examines the behavior of three different types of humic acids (natural humic acids, regenerated humic acids, and sulphited humic acids) with regard to their penetration and fixation to the leather. More specifically, through the test carried out the curves of penetration and fixation were drawn, and from these the optimum pH intervals of penetration and fixation to the leather were determined. The data obtained is essential in view of the subsequent application of humic acids as tanning agents and/or retanning agents.

Tannage Résumé : In the current study, a green technology for the leather tanning process was developed, based on Zr-AI-Ti complex as a tanning agent in supercritical CO, fluid (SCF-0O3). The operating parameters in the tanning process, including dosage of the tanning agent, reaction time, tanning temperature and tanning pressure, were optimized using the orthogonal testing method. The physicochemical properties, morphological features, organoleptic properties, hydrothermal stability and microscopie fibrous construction of the Zr-Al-T1 tanned leather were also evaluated. The results showed that the optimum process conditions were : a tanning agent dosage of 40% of the bated pelt weight, a tanning time of 1.5h, a final temperature of 40°C and a reaction pressure of 8.5 MPa. The shrinkage temperature, tear strength, tensile strength and elongation at break of Zr-Al-Ti tanned leather in water media and in SCF-CO, exhibited no statistically significant differences. However, SEM and histological observations revealed that the fiber bundles of leather tanned using the Zr-Al-Ti complex tanning agent in SCF-CO, seemed to disperse more unevenly compared to those in water media, as well as conventional chrome tanned leather. Moreover, the degree of "opening up" of the fiber bundles and the visible interspace among them in the Zr-Al-Ti tanned leather in SCF-CO, seemed to be ranch larger. Based on these results, we infer that the chrome-free tanning process in SCF-CO, may endow similar leather characteristics compared to Zr-Al-Ti tanned leather in a water medium, which could effectively reduce the discharge of waste water compared to a conventional chrome tanning process, thus contributing to the development of a greener, or cleaner, technology for the leather tanning process.
