Tannage Résumé : A novel pickle-less combination tannage based on nano-SiO2 and oxazolidine as a substitute for chrome tanning has been developed. The size and distribution of nano-SiO2 in protein, the hydrothermal stability, the mechanical properties and the antifungal effect of final leather as well as the evaluation of eco-friendly characteristics of combination tannage were investigated.
Scanning Electric Microscope (SEM) analysis indicates that the distribution of nano-SiO2 in protein is even when the SiO2 concentration is lower than 5wt% (on bated pelt weight), and the size of SiO2 particles can be controlled to a range from 60 to 150nm. But when the SiO2 concentration exceeds 7wt%, most of the particles conglomerate together and the size of the SiO2 particles is larger than 400nm. Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) study shows that the shrinkage temperature of final leather which is related to the content of nano-SiO2 is more than 95°C.
Compared to chrome tannage, leather tanned with oxazolidine-nano-SiO2 demonstrates a higher resistance to mould than conventional wet-blue. The latter incubated for 3 days began to grow mildew, whilst the oxazolidinenano-SiO2 tanned leather which was incubated for 6 days had no mildew, showing a fine antifungal effect. Environmental impact assessment shows that the developed process exhibits significant reduction in total solids (TS) and better biodegradability of organic compounds in the effluent when compared to chrome tanning.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Materials - Optimization of oxazolidine for pre-tanning - Oxazolidine-nano-SiO2 combination tanning - Conventional chrome tanning and post tanning process - Differential scanning calorimetry studies - Mechanical properties test of leather samples - Colour measurement - Scanning Electron Microscopic analysis - The antifungal effect of leather tanned with oxazolidine-nano-SiO2 - Analysis of spent tan liquor

Revêtement auto-nettoyant:Peinture auto-nettoyanteIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In recent years, there has been a considerable amount of work on the development of contamination resistant coatings. Key advances in the understanding and fabrication of surfaces with controlled wetting properties has a major role to play in creating contamination-free or easy to clean surfaces. Two principal ways are at our disposal to understand surface of self cleaning materials which work by the removal of dirt by either film or droplet flow. When it comes to protecting building facades from the possible contaminants such as dirt, exhaust fumes containing oily components, minimal spotting or streaking and good weathering resistance self cleaning hydrophilic coatings comes into the picture.
Self cleaning nanocoatings use the advantages of Ti02's superhydrophilic behavior and then reduces dirt pick up and improves cleanability.
This paper describes the preparation, characterization & uses of organic-inorganic hybrid nanocoatings using Ti02 & SiO2 nanoparticles.Note de contenu : - Dirt and water-repellent "easy-to-clean" surfaces blessed by nanotechnology

The two initial areas of research deals with the understanding of the hydration of cement particles and the use of nano-size silica particles. Definitions are important because they allow that a topic can be discussed without misunderstandings. When talking about Nano and sol gel technology this seems to be especially important, because nanotechnology is not a scientific field on its own, but rather a conglomerate of almost all scientific disciplines, ranging from chemistry and physics over materials science to e.g. medicines, coatings, construction chemicals. The nanoparticles in these coatings self-organize as the liquid coating dries on the substrate. The self-assembly of the nanoparticles results in the formation of a two-layer dielectric stack composed of alternating high and low refractive index layers. For the first time, using this process, an ultra-low reflectivity film can be inexpensively and simply formed using high refractive index titanium oxide nanoparticles and a low refractive index fluoropolymer. These films can be made scratch or abrasion resistant by the inclusion of silane coupling agents and low refractive index nanoparticles.
