Index. décimale : 677.47 Non cellulosiques : Nylon, acryliques, polyesters, vinyles Résumé : In this study, a small amount of polyester flocks was doped in shear thickening gel (STG). Strength and elongation properties of polyester (PET) filaments were measured by electronic single fiber strength tester, and dynamic mechanical properties of STG doped with different lengths of PET flocks were tested using dynamic mechanical analyzer. Results showed that polyester flocks with proper strength could improve the dynamic mechanical properties of STG and have a toughening effect, and longer flocks under low shear frequency enhanced the effects, but that with high shear frequency oppositely decreased the effects. Stabilisants (chimie)Index. décimale : 541.34 Solutions Résumé : In today's competitive cometic market one of the main challenges is to speed up product development while maintaining a high quality of work and adhering to the constantly changing regulations. One way to anticipate the results and allow a quicker development time is to take advantage of previous experience and develop a better knowledge of the structure-activity connections. From this perspective, the aim of this study is to investigate the correlations. Froms this perspective, the aim of this study is to investigate the correlations between molecular structure of thickening polymers and their final properties in formulations : thickening effect in different pH situations, resistance to UV exposure, and other benefits such as emulsifying-stabilising capacity of oils, texture and sensory profile. RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The structural features of associative thickeners influence their viscosifying properties in neat and surfactant containing aqueous solutions and in architectural coating formulations. Our understanding of the phenomena based on model associative thickener of the Hydrophobically modified Ethoxylate URethane (HEUR) type are presented. These studies provide general concepts in aqueous solutions, but they do not provide a quantitative model for understanding the influence of associative thickeners in coating formulations. To provide a more quantitative description, the interactions of associative thickeners with the film forming latex are considered in this study. This requires a knowledge of the free surfactant concentration in the formulation that depends on the residual amount present in the latex and the amounts added with the pigment grind, colorant, etc. The competitive interaction of the surfactants and associative thickener types for the surface of both disperse phases is a key variable. These interactions with the latex will be discussed in this article in an effort to define an encompassing model for understanding how HEUR associative thickeners influence waterborne coatings.

Vernis -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.7 Cires, laques, vernis Résumé : Automotive coatings have witnessed a definite transition to greener technologies over the past decade. Paint lines are being built or retrofitted for consolidated paint processes, with the intent to reduce energy consumption and operating cost. Specific to automotive clearcoats, there is a move to a one-pass application and a continuing shift to higher solids clearcoats. Consolidated paint processes require a clearcoat with improved strike-in resistance, better flow/leveling, and "filling" power to cope with telegraphing from imperfect substrates. One-pass application requires a clearcoat with an improved sag/flow balance. This article illustrates the improved appearance achieved by the use of cellulose ester rheology additives, alone or in combination with other rheology modifiers, in automotive OEM 1K clearcoats. Electrostatic rotary bell application was utilized to assess clearcoat appearance. Flow and leveling were characterized by a BYK Wavescan Dual. the viscoelastic behavior of clearcoats during the film drying process was investigated using a novel rheological technique, and the speed of solvent release was monitored using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
