Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Alkyds are widely used polymers in the coating industry for decorative and industrial applications due to their low price, performance, diversity, and containment of renewable constituents. They have been of particular interest in research over the past decade owing to new legislative requirements focused on the reduction of volatile organic coatings (VOC) and the replacement of Cobalt (Co) driers. In the present work, the commercially accessible Fe (bispidon) drier and the Co (bis (2-ethylhexanoate)) drier were studied in high-solid (HS) alkyd coatings that are consistent with allowed VOC values as stipulated by actual EU legislation. Curing kinetic properties of the alkyd oxidation process were analyzed using FTIR spectroscopy. The influence of Fe and Co driers on crosslinking was further evaluated in terms of viscoelastic properties and surface hardness measurements. Finally, cured coating films were compared with the EIS method in order to determine the influence of driers on crosslinked polymer structures and pore resistance of HS alkyd coatings. We compared Fe and Co driers in HS long-oil alkyd coatings. Coatings with Fe drier showed comparable Final Drying Times but dissimilar crosslinking kinetic activity compared with the Co drier. Fe drier enable more uniformity through the entire thickness of the HS alkyd coating and consequently has lower diffusion of ions through the film. kératineLa kératine est une protéine, synthétisée et utilisée par de nombreux êtres vivants comme élément de structure, et également l'exemple-type de protéine fibreuse.

Tannage Résumé : A Keratin-Silica matrix (KH-Si) has been prepared by treating chicken feathers with sodium silicate to overcome the known problems associated with conventional keratin hydrolyzate (KH) when used for retanning. Sodium silicate converts keratin into a water soluble product with desirable color and added properties like antimicrobial character but with retanning action similar to KH. A comparative study has been carried out between KH-Si and KH, which has been prepared with NaOH. Their physical and structural characteristics have been characterized using FT-IR, TGA, MALDI-TOF, XRPD, EDAX and Agar-well diffusion methods. The retanning performance of KH-Si and KH has been tested in wet blue goat skins. Performance of the resultant leather made with KH-Si was marginally better than KH. Computer aided color measurement on products and additional results are discussed. Photoamorceurs (chimie)
Revêtements poudreIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The curing kinetics of UV-curable powder coatings based on commercial unsaturated polyesters were monitored using photo-DSC, Real-Time FTIR-ATR and a modified rheometer equipped with a UV source. The effect of physical and chemical factors on curing such as type of photoinitiator, photoinitiator concentration, temperature and atmosphere of curing were evaluated. Coatings containing amounts of photoinitiator from 0.5 to 10 wt% were cured at different temperatures in less than 10 s reaching conversions approximately of 60%. The increase of the temperature of curing reduces the final conversion and also the rate of polymerization due to the chain transfer process and depolymerization that dominates the photopolymerization at high temperatures. The reactivity of the photoinitiators was similar for all the studied photoinitiators apart from benzophenone that was found to be the slowest initiator.
