ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Aluminum hydroxide (ATH), a non-toxic and environmentally friendly flame retardant, was characterized using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The effect of ATH content on flammability properties of LDPE was also determined using limiting oxygen index (LOI) and smoke density test. The thermal characterization studies showed that the effective temperature range for ATH as a flame retardant is 200 to 350°C. In water release test, it was determined that the release of the water by ATH degradation in ATH increased with increasing temperature. The LOI test showed that the flame retardancy of LDPE increased with increasing ATH content and decreasing ATH particle size. The smoke density test proved that addition of ATH reduced effectively the smoke density of a burning LDPE. It was studied in this paper the effect of ATH particle size on thermal, flammability and viscosity of ATH filled with LDPE. Note de contenu : - Material

Traitement coronaIndex. décimale : 667.4 Encres Résumé : Flexographic printing for packaging poses problems with waterborne inks on nonporous, low surface energy substrates such as polymeric films. The influence of base-substrate properties and corona treatment (CT) on printability of LDPE-coated paper and paperboard was studied. Characterisation of substrates and evaluation of print quality was performed visually and with conventional measurement methods. CT, ink spreading and ink distribution on the substrate were analysed using contact angle measurements in combination with microscopy methods and profilometry. Structures multicouchesIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : A coextrusion apparatus was developed to fabricate low-density polyethylene/polyamide 6 (LDPE/PA6) multilayer films. Unlike the feedblocks used in conventional coextrusion, the apparatus consists of a stirring rod, which stretches and folds the polymer components. On rotating the stirring rod, the lower viscosity phase migrates to high shear regions (stirring rod surface), thereby contributing to the formation of a multilayer structure. The desired multilayer structure was achieved at the optimum stirring speed (0.013 m s−1), volumetric flow rate of LDPE (5.8 × 10−6 m3 s−1), and volumetric flow rate of PA6 (1.5 × 10−6 m3 s−1). The LDPE/PA6 multilayer film had higher tensile and puncture resistance properties compared to that produced from conventional coextrusion, indicating the potential of the proposed apparatus for multilayer polymer film production.
les polyoléfines thermoplastiques semi-cristallines : polyéthylène (PE), polypropylène (PP), polyméthylpentène (PMP), polybutène-1 (PB-1) ;

Thermoplastiques -- RecyclageIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The market for recycled thermoplastic polymers is undergoing a sharp increase, although recyclate polymers are regarded as materials with inferior properties when compared to the virgin material. This study investigates the behavior of non-contaminated scraps of low density polyethylene (LDPE) from the plastic packaging industry after single processing stage, in terms of the productivity and the thermal and rheological properties. The LDPE used was reprocessed on a single-screw extruder (Miotto) of 90 mm screw diameter and L/D = 25. Three screw speeds (80, 90 and 100 min– 1) were investigated at three processing temperatures (200, 250 and 300 °C). The reprocessed materials were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA, parallel plates rheometry and productivity. The results obtained by TGA showed a typical range of polyolefin degradation (350 to 450 °C). The viscoelastic properties did not show significant changes in relation to the rheological behavior. Increasing the temperature and screw speed promoted a productivity gain of approximately 30 %. This suggests that under the conditions studied it is possible to reprocess this material with good productivity ensuring its thermal, mechanical and rheological properties.
