Prévision, Théorie de laIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Multi-material hybrid structures combining continuous fibre thermoplastic composites with lower-cost options such as chopped fibre thermoplastic composites and metals are an attractive proposition for many industries due to their potential lower weight and cost. High confidence in performance predictions is one of the key enablers to convert this potential into successful industry adoption. However, chopped and continuous fibre thermoplastic composites pose numerous challenges for accurate predictions, due to the inherent complexity of the material behaviour.
To establish confidence in predictions, a test component was designed that can be produced in a representative production process and can validate all of the many different composite failure modes.Note de contenu : - Hybrid overmoulding process and material forms

Structure moléculaireIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : La fonction d'une protéine est étroitement liée à la façon dont ses atomes s'organisent dans l'espace, et le plus souvent à son association avec d’autres biomolécules, qu'il s'agisse d’autres protéines, d’acides nucléiques ou de petits ligands. Malgré les progrès techniques, la résolution expérimentale des structures tridimensionnelles de protéines ou d’assemblages macromoléculaires reste longue et difficile. En conséquence, le nombre de structures de macromolécules biologiques résolues expérimentalement (de l'ordre de 160 000) reste inférieur de plusieurs ordres de grandeur au nombre de séquences protéiques annotées dans les bases de données (plus de 200 millions).
Pourquoi est-il si important de connaître la structure tridimensionnelle des protéines ? D’abord, la structure est un outil pour les biologistes qui cherchent à disséquer le fonctionnement de certaines machineries protéiques : grâce à la connaissance ou à la prédiction de la structure des protéines et de leurs assemblages, on peut concevoir des mutations qui vont perturber spécifiquement certaines de leurs fonctions. La structure est également particulièrement intéressante pour le développement d’approches thérapeutiques, car elle donne les clés pour concevoir des composés synthétiques (molécules organiques ou petits biopolymères) capables de cibler spécifiquement une fonction ou une interaction. Un exemple emblématique de succès de la conception de médicaments basée sur la structure concerne plusieurs molécules inhibitrices de la protéase du VIH qui ont été autorisées comme traitement contre le SIDA dans les années 1990.Note de contenu : - Un problème de prédiction difficile

Polyesters insaturésLes résines de polyesters insaturés (UP) sont obtenues par polycondensation
d’un ou de plusieurs diacides avec un ou plusieurs glycols, l’un, au moins, des constituants contenant une double liaison éthylénique susceptible de réagir ultérieurement sur un composé vinylique, acrylique ou allylique.
Par le terme résine polyester, on désigne en fait la dissolution du prépolymère polyester insaturé dans un solvant copolymérisable, le plus utilisé étant le styrène. C’est sous cette forme liquide que les résines polyesters sont livrées aux transformateurs.
Après addition de différents adjuvants, charges et renforts, divers procédés de transformation provoquent, sous l’action d’un système catalytique approprié, la copolymérisation finale de la résine en un objet thermodurcissable.
Les polyesters insaturés sont d’un usage relativement ancien (1950), essentiellement
dans le bâtiment (moulage au contact). Ils ont connu un renouveau important à partir de 1980, en particulier au niveau des formulations et de la fiabilité des procédés grâce au développement de technologies industrielles de moulage par injection et par compression dans l’industrie automobile.
