Surfaces fonctionnellesIndex. décimale : 620.19 Autres matériaux Résumé : We present an easy and reliable method of functionalizing and dispersing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) for nanocomposite production. This was achieved via a mixture of the concentrated acids HNO3/H2SO4, followed by sonication in appropriate solvents (Ethanol, Acetone and/or Dimethylformamide). SWCNTs were functionalized to attach carboxylic moieties on the walls of the nanotubes, which aided in the production of SWCNTs suspensions in acetone, ethanol and dimethylformamide in which nanotubes remained dispersed for a period of two (2) weeks. Energy dispersion analysis (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the functionalized SWCNTs.

PolyestersIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The objective of this research is to produce and analyze natural fiber-based composites (sisal/polyester, kenaf/polyester, pineapple/polyester) and their hybrid composites (sisal/kenaf/polyester, kenaf/pineapple/polyester, and sisal/kenaf/pineapple/polyester) made by compression molding. These composites were characterized mechanically using hardness (shore D), tensile, flexural, and impact (Charpy) tests. Fiber matrix bonding was analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Among all the fiber-based samples (sisal/polyester, kenaf/polyester, and pineapple/polyester), sisal/polyester shows a high hardness value of 93.24 Sd, a tensile strength of 43.00 MPa, and an impact strength around 7.42 kJ/m2, while pineapple/polyester produces a better flexural strength of 83.21 MPa. Hybrid composites showed improved mechanical performance. The mechanical characteristics of the sisal/kenaf/pineapple/polyester hybrid composite were 56.16 MPa, 1.71 GPa, and 9.34 kJ/m2. The highest flexural strength of the Sisal/kenaf/polyester multi-layered samples was observed as 83.24 MPa.

Réaction de couplageIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : In this work, the mechanical and morphological properties of high density polyethylene (HDPE)/flax fiber composites are reported. In particular, the effect of adding a rubber phase (SBR) in terms of recycled ground tire rubber (GTR) is determined. Samples with different concentrations of flax fibers and rubber powders were prepared. Also, the addition of a coupling agent (SEBS) on both matrix-fiber and matrix-rubber surface adhesion and composite morphology is investigated. The results show an improvement in both matrix-rubber and matrix-fiber surface adhesion after incorporation of the coupling agent leading to improved tensile and flexural properties. Also, impact strength results showed a toughening effect of the HDPE matrix by flax and SBR addition.
- Description : Les feuilles sont de forme triangulaire.
(Wikipedia)

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The present work investigates the mechanical characteristics of randomly oriented short Sansevieria Trifasciata Fibre Polyester (STFP) composites. The STFP composites are fabricated using compression moulding methods with varying fibre weight percentages (5 %–50 %) and fibre lengths (5 mm–50 mm). It has been observed that the impact, flexural, and tensile strength of STFPs improve as the length of the fibre increases, up to a maximum of 40 mm. After that, these properties start to decrease as the length of the fibre further increases. Further, the analysis revealed that STFPs exhibited an increase in properties when the fibre weight percentage was less than 40 %, followed by a decrease in properties as the fibre percentage increased beyond that point. The impact strength of STFP is around 8.2 J/cm2. Similarly, the STFP has a flexural modulus and strength of about 3.4 GPa and 82.6 MPa, respectively. Lastly, the tensile strength of STFP is around 78.26 MPa, the elongation at break is between 6.25 % and 9.36 %, and the Young’s modulus is 11.8 GPa. The matrix and fibre interaction were examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Furthermore, Thermogravimetric (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) analyses are carried out. From these analyses, the thermal stability of STFP is 200 °C and its activation energy is 65.48 kJ/mol. After a thorough comparison with other well-known natural fibres, the proposed properties of STFP demonstrate its superiority as a practical and effective natural fibre composite.
Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) and polycarbonate (PC) residues were collected from waste LCD panels for use as raw materials to prepare PC/PMMA polymer blends (1/99, 3/97, 5/95, 10/90), which were extruded in a twin screw extruder. The extrudates were subsequently pelletized and then dried in an oven before injection molding into tensile bars of ASTM D638-91, type I. The tensile bars were placed in an Instrontype tensile tester and the load-elongation curves of tested 5/95 specimens demonstrated distinctively varied yielding before final brittle fracture but 10/90 showed some sign of ductile behavior, peak in the load-elongation curve attributable to formation of a neck. The tensile strength increased from 569.6 to 633.3 kgf/cm2 with PC concentration in the range of 1 to 5 wt% while it decreased at 10 wt% PC. On the contrary, transverse rupture strength increased with added amount of PC. Addition of PC could have toughened recycled PMMA matrix under impact test conditions. Finally, the fractured surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscopy and numerous fine particles dispersed in the matrix of 10/90 are regarded as PC phase, in reasonable agreement with literature results. On the other hand, fracture surface of 5/95 showed nearly homogeneous matrix phase of PC/PMMA. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENT : Materials and blending - Measurements
