The amount of petroleum-based resin which was replaced by bio-resin (MAEPO) was varied from 5 to 20 wt%. The structure of the polymer systems was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and dynamic mechanical analysis. The mechanical properties of the VE/MAEPO resins were studied using tensile, flexural and impact tests. The result obtained from structural analysis revealed that for the polymer hybrids with up to 20 wt% bio-resin content, there is good compatibility between MAEPO and VE as no phase separation was observed for these systems. The prepared eco-friendly bio-based thermosetting resins exhibit remarkable improvement in toughness parameters, such as ductility and impact strength, thereby showing potential for use in composites and nanocomposites applications. Vêtements en cuirIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The biodegradability of chrome tanned, vegetable tanned, organic phosphonium-tanned, organic phosphonium-zirconium combination-tanned leathers and organic phosphonium-aluminum combination-tanned leather was studied by outdoor soil burial. When these leathers were buried outdoor in summer for 150 days, their biodegradation rate reached 6,87 %, 27,50 %, 19,92 %, 34,83 % and 80,88 %, respectively. DSC analysis showed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) of leathers with good biodegradability were lower than for those with poor biodegradability.
The results of SEM obervations showed that the surface of leathers became obviously rough after biodegradation. The biodegradability of organic phosphonium-zirconium combination-tanned leather and organic phosphonium-aluminum combination-tanned leather were much better than that of organic phosphonium-tanned leather, which showed that zirconium and aluminum were beneficial for the growth of microorganisms and increased the biodegradability of leathers.
Vegetable tanning agents are natural products, so the biodegradability of vegetable-tanned leather was good. The biodegradability of chrome-tanned leather was the worst as chrome was toxic to microorganisms. The study provided theoretical support for the production of environmentally friendly leather and the alleviation of environmental stress.Note de contenu : - Materials and equipment

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The hybrid sol–gel coating on Al 2024-T3 was modified by adding polyaniline, TiO2, or γ-Al2O3 nanoparticles in the formulation separately. The coating was then used as an adhesive to bond Al 2024-T3 alloys, forming a single lap joint. The bond strength of the sol–gel coating was investigated using a universal tensile test machine. The lap shear strength of the original sol–gel coating was about 1.38 MPa and it was increased up to 2.26 MPa after the modification by adding 0.05 wt% PANI microparticles in the sol–gel coating. The small increase in strength was attributed to an improvement in its adhesive flexibility because of incorporation of the long-chain organic polymer in its structure. Furthermore, the addition of different amounts of TiO2 nanoparticles in the unmodified sol–gel coating also led to an increase in shear strength compared to the undoped sol–gel coating. Typically, a sol–gel coating containing 2.0 wt% of TiO2 recorded the highest adhesive strength of about 4.0 MPa. A similar increase in strength was observed when doping γ-Al2O3 nanoparticles into the original hybrid sol–gel coating. Adding 0.5 wt% of γ-Al2O3 in the sol–gel coating increased the adhesive bonding strength up to 4.48 MPa. The fracture surface of the specimen was separately observed by SEM and Optical Microscopy in order to examine potential evidences of mechanism and nature of failure. The reason why the adhesive strength increased after the modification of the sol–gel coating is discussed in this article. RugositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Urushi (oriental lacquer) is a natural material that forms thin films with excellent durability and water resistance. There are two methods for curing urushi: oxidative and thermal polymerizations. Urushi is mainly applied to wood; therefore, the oxidative polymerization method has mainly been used to cure it. Oxidative polymerization requires temperature and humidity control and takes a long time to fully cure urushi. Urushi mixed with pigments has poor coloration. In contrast, the use of a thermal polymerization reaction can achieve curing in a short time. In this study, we focused on the thermal curing reaction of urushi, formed 13 different colored urushi coating films, and investigated their properties and coloration. We observed that urushi coatings produced through thermal polymerization took less time to cure than those produced through oxidative polymerization, and that urushi coatings with better coloration and high water repellency were obtained.
