Adhésifs sensibles à la pressionIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Previous studies have shown that excellent peel strengths have been obtained with acrylate terminated oligomers with molecular weights ranging from 1.000 to 6.000 and glass transition temperatures ranging from -74 to 13 degrees C. This report deals with three urethane diacrylate oligomers with glass transition ranging from -30 to -38 degrees C and other specialty oligomers with glass transition temperature of -74 degrees C and 13 degrees C. In one variation, two different C-9 hydrocarbon resins were studied: one with a ring and ball softening point of 115 degrees C and the other with a softening point of 135 degrees C. Tackifiant (adhésifs)Index. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Solvent-based, water-based and hot melt adhesives have a long history of success for pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape and label applications. These technologies are seemingly well entrenched with adequate performance and low cost. Several market trends, however, are opening up new opportunities for UV curable PSAs.
In contrast to solvent-based adhesives, UV curable PSAs contain no fugitive solvent and are therefore VOC compliant. In contrast to hot melts, UV curable adhesives offer a crosslinked network upon cure and therefore are capable of higher heat resistance and plasticizer resistance. Finally, in contrast to water-based technologies, UV curable PSAs offer immediate cure and can be formulated to exhibit much better blushing resistance upon exposure to water. The lack of a need for drying capability is also a significant advantage of UV curable adhesives over water-based technology.Note de contenu : - Market drivers

Adhésifs sensibles à la pressionIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Pressure sensitive adhesives are materials that form a bond with very light pressure. The cured adhesive is neither solid nor liquid, but rather is a vicoelastic material that is usually quite tacky. Pressure sensitive adhesives are generally categorized into solvent based, water based and radiation cured adhesives. The former covers larger share in the market, but with realization of high VOC (Volatile Organic Content) and effects on environment, major focus is shifted to water based adhesives. The advantages of water-based PSAs are the abatement of air pollution (low VOC) and generally enhanced oxidation resistance of the final film. Radiation cured adhesives are now being employed because of their advantages over other two methods but it too has limitations. It is necessary to utilize the advantages using combination of above methods. This article mainly discusses about the radiation cured water based adhesives - its synthesis and application. Radiation cured water based adhesives do not currently command a significant market share but the interes remains high in this type of pressure sensitive adhesive technology. A number of important relationships between the proportion of these adhesives and both cure and formulating parameters have been uncovered. Use of these relationships can significantly enhance the chances or designing and optimizing superior ultraviolet/electron beam cured water based pressure sensitive adhesives. UV and EB processes can increase productivity, reduce scrap and waste, and lower inventory. Table 1 shows the various reasons UV/EB-cure adhesives are used.
This article examines the potential productivity improvements and reduced cost provided by UV/EB adhesives systems. In addition, it will detail the major markets for UV/EB adhesives.Note de contenu : - Introduction to UV/EB curing

Le second groupe en importance de matériaux en silicone est celui des résines de silicone, formées par des oligosiloxanes ramifiés ou en forme de cage (wiki).Index. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Silicones (polyorganosiloxanes) are highly flexible polymers based on an inorganic backbone of repeating silicon and oxygen atoms bonded together such that each silicon atom has attached to it two pendant organic groups based on hydrogen and carbon. For silicones used in release coatings chemistries these pendant hydrocarbons are usually methyl (-CH3) groups.Considering that the polysiloxane backbone is surrounded by an encompassing sheath of methyl hydrocarbons, and taking into account that hydrocarbons such as waxes and motor oils are characterized with lubricity and "non-stick" low surface energy, it is not surprising to find that silicones are similarly characterized. What distinguishes silicones from simple hydrocarbons are their better mechanical properties and higher temperature resistance. Release coatings based on chemically reacted silicones provide "easy release" surfaces for a variety of "sticky" applications. These silicone release coatings provide a non-adhering surface for paper and films upon which adhesives may be coated, handled and transported.Silicone release coated papers and films, when laminated to pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) coated materials such as labels and tapes, provide both protection for the adhesive coated product (such as in preparation for slitting, die-cutting, etc.) and they provide subsequent easy release of the release coated paper or film from the adhesive surface immediately prior to its final use.For example, when "sticky" labels are manufactured, it is necessary to provide a removable paper or film backing that can be peeled away easily from the PSA coated label when it is ready for application. After it has served its purpose, this removable backing is either disposed of or recycled. In another example, certain types of adhesive tapes are coated on their backsides with a silicone release coating to allow the tape to unroll easily. If both sides of the paper or film on which the PSA is coated are "differentially" treated with a silicone release (one release coated side provides measurably easier release than the other), a "transfer tape" can be manufactured such that the free and unsupported PSA adhesive layer can be transferred easily to any other desired surface. For every released application, it is critically important that the adhesive side of these laminated constructions remains virtually unaffected by prolonged contact with the cured (chemically crosslinked) silicone coating. The silicone release coating must not contaminate the adhesive through migration of unreacted silicone oils, thereby degrading the adhesive performance or causing secondary contamination issues (e.g., for indirect food contact applications). The silicone release coating must also provide highly stable release over time; the adhesive and the silicone surfaces must not "lock up" whereby the paper or film liner is no longer easily removed.
