Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Industries that work with acidic chemicals in their processes need to make choices on how to properly contain the substances and avoid rapid corrosion of equipment. Certain organic coatings and linings can be used in such environments, either to protect vulnerable construction materials, or, in combination with fiber reinforcement, to replace them. However, degradation mechanisms of organic coatings in acid service are not thoroughly understood and relevant quantitative investigations are scarce. This review describes the uses and limitations of acid-resistant coatings in the chemical industry, with a comparison to alternative resistant materials based on metals or ceramics. In addition, coating degradation phenomena, caused by acid exposure, are mapped to the extent possible, and analysis methods for detecting coating degradation type and severity are listed and discussed. It is concluded that more knowledge on chemical and physical degradation mechanisms is required, and that improvements in resistance to elevated temperatures and abrasion would decrease the risk of use and increase the potential application areas of organic coatings exposed to acidic environments in the chemical industry. Various film-forming products have been investigated, including water-borne coatings, on various types of substrates. A wide range of information can be extracted such as objective drying times (dust-free, dry-hard times, etc) or mechanism taking place, thereby offering new possibilities to analyse film formation from complex colloidal systems. Spectroscopie des rayons XIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : Des dégradations volontaires sont fréquemment commises au moyen de peintures aérosols (tags, profanations de tombes, revendications de groupuscules...). Les preuves échantillonnées sur les sites ainsi marqués sont traitées au Département Véhicules de l'IRCGN qui a développé un ensemble de méthodes fines appliquées aux peintures aérosols à des fins de comparaison et d'identification. Une même peinture aérosol peut provenir de fabricants ou de distributeurs sous différentes références. La principale méthode employée est la spectrométrie infrarouge à transformée de Fourier par transmission (IRTF). L'analyse de différentes peintures aérosols fournies par les fabricants et leurs distributeurs a permis de créer une base de données, désormais mise en œuvre chaque fois que l'analyse d'un cas réel est requise pour les besoins d'une enquête. Une seconde méthode d'analyse, la microfluorescence X, complète les résultats de l'analyse par IRTF. Dans certaines circonstances, d'autres méthodes telles la spectrométrie Raman et le couplage de la pyrolyse/chromatographie en phase gazeuse/spectrométrie de masse sont parfois mises en œuvre.
