The traditional role of coatings is that of protecting and improving the aesthetic quality of wood. Sophisticated codes, containing products names, lot numbers or other information can now be included in coatings and used for quality-control or authentication purposes.
One of the most interesting consequences of this innovation is that coatings, or even coated products, can now be tagged for the entire lifetime of the product. This was considered to be of great interest by the companies involved in the project, especially in the event of claims resulting from in-use faults, certification and warranty procedures.
Coatings for the protection of wood for outdoor use are complex systems where different properties are balanced in order to confer adequate resistance against deterioration induced by a variety of weathering factors.
The coating users are increasingly sensitive to objective proof of the efficacy of coating products. The role of test reports according to EN 927 and certifications based on this European standard represent growing evidence of this concern.
While the various technical aspects are of great importance, warranties represent the main area of interest in marketing campaigns and in contracts between coating producers and users.
The most important aspect of a warranty is generally the number of year for which the coating producer assumes responsability for any defect causedby 'normal weathering' of the coated product.
In the event of a claim, the onus is on the producer to prove that the whole process has been carried out properly, but the crucial question is really whether it can be proved that all the products forming the coating system are those for which the warranty was granted.Note de contenu : - Recognition of applied coatings

Textiles et tissus synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Advanced multifunctional surfaces are widely used due to their unique surface properties and widespread applications. Developing a multifunctional fabric with a low cost, fluorine-free, and easily controllable method is a great challenge. This paper reports a multifunctional fabric with conductive, UV blocking, superhydrophobic and photosensing properties via an electrodeposition method. ZnO nano-/microarchitectures have been electrodeposited on polyester fabric with a carbon black screen-printed conductive layer. The deposition was carried out in various operating parameters. The optimized conditions for the ZnO electrodeposition are at − 1.0 V for 30 min deposition time in 5 mM Zn(NO3)2 in 0.1 M KNO3 at room temperature. The developed fabric showed 100% UV radiation blocking and a water contact angle (WCA) of 156° after self-assembly of stearic acid on the ZnO layer. The modified fabric showed fast photoresponse as a photosensor, which indicates that this can be used as flexible wearable photosensors in practical applications. Textiles et tissus à usages techniquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The digitization of a society has tremendously influenced the social, economic, and organizational activities of human beings. Internet of things (IoT) will be the next norm to ensure well-being, protection, and comfort of the human beings. Owing to the crisis in energy and consumption of fuel, the research in energy harvesters and autonomous sensors has been focused to develop self-powered wearable devices. The stand-alone energy devices are not suitable to fulfill the requirement of supplying power to the various wearable devices because of higher weight, large volume, frequent recharging, and replacement. The integration of wearable devices into textile materials has recently fostered the emergence of textile-based piezoelectric energy harvesters and sensors. A critical review has been presented on the current status of the textile-based piezosensors and energy harvesters, covering fundamental aspects like probable piezocoatings, fabrication strategies, material choices, working principles, theory behind piezoelectric energy harvesting devices and possible potential applications.
