ThermochromieIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Colour changes of a thermochromic liquid crystal (TLC) ink printed on a black substrate are clearly observed by the naked eye, and therefore it is reasonable to expect that every approach recommended for colour measurements of samples with solid colour would be appropriate. In addition, the published spectroscopic analyses of TLC inks do not provide any guidance or limitations for the measurement geometry. On the other hand, our study demonstrates that spectroscopic measurements of such samples are not so straightforward. When using the most simple and commonly used measurement equipment with a directional illumination and viewing approach, the temperature-dependent spectral features resolve in a narrow spectral region that gives only a small part of the colour play effect. Detection of the entire effect requires the use of integrating spheres, which spatially integrate the radiant flux reflected on a sample in any direction; better results are obtained by spheres of larger diameter. The comparision of spectroscopic and colorimetric results obtained when different measurement geometries are applied on the same sample may demonstrate certain properties of the liquid crystal material inside microcapsules and help in understanding some details of the optical properties of the ink layer.
ThermochromieIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : A reversible, adjustable thermochromic colorant with bichromatic conversion from dark red (cool state) to yellow (heat state) was prepared using bromocresol purple (BCP) as colour former. The thermochromic behaviour of this colorant was investigated during the heating‐cooling cycle, including the colour depth, colour difference and switching temperature. The mechanism of thermochromic colorant switching between dark red and yellow originated from the transformation of the conjugated structures of BCP, which was confirmed by infrared spectrometry. The switching temperature can be flexibility adjusted between 13-46 °C by mixing solvents according to Schröder's equation, which was demonstrated by differential scanning calorimetry measurement. The thermochromic colorant presented good reversible thermochromic performance with stable changes in colour parameters for 50 heating‐cooling cycles. This sultone‐based reversible dark red‐yellow conversion thermochromic colorant is suitable for application as thermal‐indicating material under various conditions. ThermochromieIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Thermochromic dyes and pigments offer significant potential for functional and aesthetic design of smart textile materials and in the area of the leather industry potential application of thermochromic pigment dispersions opens up a new issue. In this study, thermochromic pigments were applied in the leather finishing process in order to obtain leathers changing colour with temperature and their potential for innovative design concepts accompanied with an evaluation of technical features of the materials is presented. Two thermochromic pigments, providing colour change at 15°C and 31°C were applied at different proportions in the base-coat of the finishing process. The colour measurements and colour change of the thermochromic leathers were determined by a Minolta CM-3600d spectrophotometer bath prior to and subsequent to the rubbing fastness tests.
To and fro rubbing, crockmeter and light fastness properties of leathers were examined according to TS EN ISO 11640, ASTM D5053 and ISO 105-B02 standards respectively. Leathers coloured with thermochromic pigments showed a significant color changing effect depending on temperature and, as expected, the thermochromic effect was improved by a higher thermochromic pigment proportion in the finishing formulation. Fastness properties of thermochromic leathers, except light fastness, were found to be adequate compared to conventionally finished leathers. The findings suggest that the thermochromic pigments could be alternatively used with concentional conventional pigments in leather finishing applications according to leather fashion trends and different designs of leather products in addition to technical leathers and textiles in the field of medical and protective wear applications.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS

(Wikipedia)

ThermochromieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Thermochromic coatings are special effect coatings that change colour when the temperature changes. The colour changing function contributes to its most important benefit: bringing additional functions to routine items, such as a temperature indicating feature, food quality indicator, or authenticity verification. However, thermochromic coatings are usually sensitive to UV light or in-room light exposure. UV light would damage the thermochromic compounds and ruin the colour changing ability and hence, limit its application range. To expand the application of thermochromic coatings, solving the UV-sensitive issue is necessary. The purpose of this study was to find suitable solutions to solve the fading problems of thermochromic coatings.
Design of Experiment (DOE) method and statistical software were used to analyse the correlation of light stabiliser dosage and dry film thickness (DFT) after the QUV¬accelerated weathering test. According to the calculated results, the influence level of a novel light stabiliser (NLS) on colour difference value is 69%, while the influence level of DFT is 20%. Furthermore, we tested the protective effect of different dosages of NLS on the colour changing ability for thermochromic coatings after 72hr QUV exposure. According to our results, 3% and 5% of NLS both provide excellent protection and help the thermochromic coating to maintain its colour changing function after UV light exposure. / mATNote de contenu : - EXPERIMENT : Materials - Equipment - Methods - QUV accelerated weathering test - High temperature optical data test method
