Ressources renouvelablesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Two biodegradable cyclic esters, ?-caprolactone and lactide monomer, were incorporated into co-polyols. Lactide monomer is obtained from renewable resources. Increasing lactide levels reduced the crystallinity and increased the Tg of the polyols. When these polyols were incorporated into PUD dispersions, the highest lactide content showed increased film stiffness, hardness and scratch resistance. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The alkyd coating market continues to face increasing challenges as government bodies and environmental agencies establish new volatile organic content (VOC) and regulatory restrictions. In many cases, reformulation is necessary to meet ow-VOC requirements, which may cause adverse effects in the final coating, such as slow dry times, increasingly complex formulations, and poor coating performance. Formulators can overcome such performance obstacles in sustainable coatings by using the proper high-performance catalyst (HPC). This unique technology can meet VOC requirements, outperform standard metal carboxylates across multiple resin platforms, and may eliminate the need for complex drier packages.

Revêtements poudreIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polyurethane (PU) is one of the best polymer coatings due to its wide range of advantages such as easy fabrication, lightness, non-toxicity, durability, adhesion, flexibility, and strength. However, some of its drawbacks make it a suitable choice for the manufacturing of nanocomposites to enhance its properties. Hydrophobicity and flame retardancy are two of the most crucial characteristics of a polymer nanocoating. Magnesium hydroxide (MH), with its ability to be produced in a multitude of morphologies and exceptional properties, especially in flame retardancy, has always attracted the interest of researchers. One of the best methods for synthesizing high-purity, controlled-size, and controlled-shape nanoparticles is the hydrothermal technique. In this paper, magnesium chloride and sodium hydroxide were utilized as raw materials to synthesize four different morphologies of MH, such as plate, flake, spherical, and disk, functionalized using 3-Aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES). In the following, PU nanocomposites were fabricated by drop casting method including 3 % w.t. of different synthesized MH. The influence of each morphology on different properties of PU/Mg(OH) was then investigated using different analyses such as spectroscopy, mechanical, and hydrophobicity tests. The observations indicated that different surface topography would result from the presence of nanoparticles with various morphologies on the nanocomposite’s surface. Extremely high water contact angles were attained as a result of the surface roughness, revealing the super hydrophobic behavior of the produced nanocoatings. Also, the presence of MH in PU matrix improved the mechanical properties of the nanocomposite, depending on the aspect ratio and particle size.: Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL METHODS AND MATERIALS : Nano-MH synthesis - PU/Mg(OH)2 fabrication - Characterization

TriméthyléthoxysilaneIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Various surface treatment methods were investigated to improve the adhesion of abrasion-resistant polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSQ) coatings on the optical resins. The adhesion of PMSQ films was improved on polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), and PC/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) by pretreating their surface with O2 plasma or chromic acid followed by surface grafting with trimethyl ethoxysilane (TMES). After the O2 plasma and the subsequent TMES treatments, the adhesion of PMSQ coating on PMMA substrate was significantly enhanced by the reduction of the percentage of peeling area from ~100% to <1% in cross cut tests. After the chromic acid and the subsequent TMES treatments of PC and PC/ABS substrates, the adhesion of PMSQ coatings was also significantly enhanced by reducing the percentages of peeling areas from nearly 100% to 50% and <1%, respectively, for PC and PC/ABS. The PMSQ coating might increase the hardness of the polymer by two to three levels.
