RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Atmospheric pressure plasma jet polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was performed in order to deposit a PMMA-like coating on ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). This study is a first step in the transfer from MMA plasma polymerization experiments previously performed in a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor to a newly designed atmospheric pressure plasma jet. In this novel plasma setup, the substrate is not directly exposed to the plasma region, but placed in the plasma jet afterglow. The effect of several plasma jet process parameters on the coating properties was investigated using different surface characterization techniques such as XPS, FTIR, AFM, and OPS. Results show that the stationary deposition of PMMA-like thin films results in a radial gradient in surface chemistry, surface morphology, and coating thickness. Additionally, the coating properties were found to significantly depend on the monomer-containing gas flow rate. This observation is also confirmed by CFD modeling, which shows that the monomer-containing gas flow rate strongly influences the gas flow pattern of the plasma afterglow and therefore the final properties of the deposited PMMA-like film.

Résistance au chocsIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The mechanical properties of plastic compounds are an important quality criterion. At present, however, they can only be determined by laboratory measurements with a time delay. Online measurement procedures during compounding save time and prevent errors during the production process. A research project shows how the impact strength and hardness of the compound strand can be measured online. Note de contenu : - Online determination of material hardness

- Fig. 2 : A laboratory granulator serves as the basis for the measurement demonstrator for online recording of impact strength. The pelletizer has been extended by a torque measuring point on the drive train
- Fig. 3 : Online measurement results of the demonstrator in relation to the results of the standardized reference measurement of th eIzod impact strength of different filament materials (same diameter and same mass temperatre) : there is a linear correlation between torque change and increasing impact strength
- Fig. 4 : Measuring demonstrator for online hardness determination : the pari of measuring rolls consists of a driven elliptical roll and a round counter roll. Depending on the hardness, the force is transmitted through the lon main axis of the ellipse to the axis of the round mating roll where it is measured
- Fig. 5 : The force changes measured online, plotted against the Shore A hardness values according to the manufacturer's specifications : the standard deviation result from the different strand diameters and temperatures. Nevertheless, the different soft TPE-S materials can be clearly assigned. The negative force amounts for the TPE material with 30 Shore A result from the fact that the forces transmitted by the strand are lower than the weight force of the round mating roll attached below the force sensor. This causes a tensile load on the sensor
- Fig. 6 : The force curve at the online hardness measuring stand over the test duration and, for online evaluation, the moving average value over 5s : the positive and negative deflections indicate the amterial change due to the foreign material. The base material was a TPE-S with a hardness of 70 Shore A. A test points 1 and 6 20g and 3g respectively of a TPE-S with 80 Shore A were added. The test points 2 and 5 (green dotted box) show the course after the addition of 20g and 3g respectively of a TPE-S with 50 Shore A. Test points 3 and 4 include the addition of 20g and 3g of pure PP material, respectively. The plate-to-plate hot embossing process is a low cost, fast, high throughput and the most possibility of mass production method for replication of micro/nano structures with high precision and high quality. However, micro hot embossing is not practical to use in mass production due to the many difficulties. This paper reports a innovative non-uniform heating hot embossing system for fabrication of large-size, high precise and high brightness light guide plate. Steam is used as heating medium, and water of 12 °C is used for cooling. The v-groove patterns in the stamper have been replicated to the light guide plates (LGPs) with an area of 488 mm by 277 mm. The experimental results show that the non-uniform heating system could achieve a transcription rate of over 99 %, compared with 95 % using conventional uniform heating system. Furthermore, less warpage, the less thickness variation, the higher average luminance and the higher brightness field distribution have been found. The results indicate that non-uniform heating system is likely to be a promising technique for the fabrication of optical elements.
