VulcanisationIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : BPR (brominated tert octyl phenolic resin) vulcanization system is one of the commonly used systems for CIIR (chloride butyl rubber). In the vulcanization process, there are two competitive reactions, the cross-linking reaction and the self-poly-condensation reaction of BPR. In this vulcanization system, the metal oxide, as vulcanization active agent, have a greater impact on the kinetics of these two competing reaction. The kinetics equation of overall reaction (including the two competitive reactions) and the BPR self-poly-condensation reaction with different amount of ZnO or MgO were obtained by non-isothermal DSC method. The results showed that ZnO would promote the overall reaction and the BPR self-poly-condensation reaction at lower dosage, the rate constant of overall reaction increased faster than BPR self-poly-condensation reaction rate constant with the increasing of the ZnO content, and when the ZnO content exceeded 7.5phr, the rate constant of BPR self-poly-condensation reaction decreased; With the increasing of the MgO content, the rate constant of overall reaction and BPR self-poly-condensation reaction reduced, and the rate constant of self-poly-condensation reaction reduced much faster than the rate constant of the overall reaction when the content of MgO changed from 0.5 to 0.75. The cross-linking density was measured by the equilibrium swelling method. The results showed that with the increasing of ZnO content, the cross-linking density increased when it was less than 10 phr, and decreased when the ZnO content exceeded 10 phr. With the increasing of MgO content, the cross-linking density increased when it was less than 0.75 phr, and decreased when the MgO content exceeded 0.75 phr. The mechanical properties and the dynamic mechanical properties were investigated by the universal testing machine and the dynamic mechanical performance analysis (DMA), respectively. The results showed that the ZnO and MgO content had a great impact on the mechanical properties and the dynamic mechanical properties, and the variation trend of the cross-linking density was further confirmed by the corresponding variation of the properties. VerreIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Solid particulate fillers usually increase both the Young's modulus and the density of polymers. The incorporation of hollow glass microspheres into polymers enables a better balance between mechanical properties and density, combined with benefits in terms of processing and surface quality. These hollow microspheres are capable of improving the flow characteristics of a polymer in the mould, and reduce mould shrinkage. These properties of hollow microspheres can be well utilized in NBR based rubber compounds, which are used as thermal insulation systems for protection of solid rocket motor case from high temperature combustion gases. Insulators with low density are of immense use in aerospace applications, since they enhance payload capability and reduce mission cost. Attempts are made to reduce density of elastomer compounds by incorporating these hollow glass microspheres. The effects of process conditions, level of microspheres and treatment with liquid polymer on density have been discussed Changes in density of the NBR correlated with extent of the break down of hollow microspheres have been brought out. This article also emphasizes the changes in the mechanical properties and thermal properties in NBR insulation system after the incorporation of these microspheres. Poudre de cuirIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In the processes of leather dressing as well as in nontanned hide processing, there are considerable losses of collagen. Half of the hide collagen is rejected as waste products from the technological process.
The methods of leather waste utilization have been reviewed by Przepiórkowska et al. The literature suggests that leather wastes often are not chemically treated, while their properties such as fibrous character, heat stability, sorption capabilities and increased friction coefficient are utilized. However, the methods of detanning, chemical or enzymatic hydrolysis of chrome tanned wastes yield various forms of degraded collagen. According to many researchers, the detanning of chrome tanned wastes always fail to recover collagen protein in its original form. According to Heidemann, most of the long existing methods for the utilization of chrome tanned wastes cannot be practically implemented. In this connection it is necessary to develop such utilization methods that could provide products whose price would make up for the costs of raw materials and processing. This problem has been studied at the Institute of Polymers. The present study is aimed at the management of difficult wastes such as shavings of chrome tanned leathers from the tanning industry.
The waste collagen was utilized to produce elastomer composites. The incorporation of protein into a rubber compound containing synthetic isoprene rubber should provide a product with properties similar to those of a natural rubber mix, as it is well known that natural rubber contains some amount of protein in its composition.Note de contenu : - Thermal analysis of leather powders

VulcanisationIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The vulcanization reaction of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVM) rubber is fast, resulting in poor processing safety. EVM is often filled with flame-retardant fillers as insulating or sheathing material for wires and cables. Herein, the effects of flame-retardant magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2), aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)3) and of the traditional reinforcing fillers carbon black (CB) and silicon dioxide (SiO2) on the vulcanization kinetics of EVM were investigated. The vulcanization characteristics showed that the scorch time (T10) of the unfilled EVM (KB), SiO2/EVM, Mg(OH)2/EVM, and Al(OH)3/EVM composites was about 1.75 min. T10 of the CB/EVM composite was 2.22 min. Compared with KB, the activation energy (E a ) increased by about 15 kJ/mol for CB/EVM composites and by about 5 kJ/mol for SiO2/EVM, Mg(OH)2/EVM and Al(OH)3/EVM composites. The results indicate that CB delays the vulcanization time of EVM rubber, slows down the rate of vulcanization reaction and improves the safety of vulcanization. The addition of SiO2, Mg(OH)2 and Al(OH)3 has little effect on the vulcanization reaction. The mechanical properties show that CB/EVM is more uniformly vulcanized and has the best mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 17.61 MPa and elongation at break of 404.58 %. Mg(OH)2/EVM and Al(OH)3/EVM samples have prominent vulcanization non-uniformity resulting in poor mechanical properties. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENT : Materials - Preparation of EVM composites

ZincIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Zinc surfactant (ZS) is added into natural rubber (NR)/silica/TESPD (bis (triethoxysilyl propyl) disulfide) and silicone rubber (SR)/NR/silica/TESPD compounds and these compounds are vulcanized. The addition of the ZS shows significant improvements on mechanical properties on both compounds. It increases the torque maximum values of the compounds as well as the tan delta values, which is an indirect implication that the vibration isolation property is increased. It shows the presence of zinc ion in the ZS helps silane coupling with double bond in the rubber chain. This results in improved mechanical properties such as the modulus, tensile strength, elongation at break, and hardness.
