UV-A-cured one-component (1K) autorefinish primers were first introduced in the mid-1990s. UV-A clearcoats were subsequently introduced in the late 1990s.
Materials have continued to be developed and pushed to mimic the classic two-component (2K) solvent-based polyurethanes (PURs) ; however, slow acceptance by the auto-refinish market over the past two decades is indicative of a market that is difficult to change.
The automotive-refinish coatings market is forecast to surpass U.S. $6.3 billion globally in 2021. This market is expected to increase by 5.4% CAGR between 2021 and 2031. The main technology types are solventborne, waterborne, and UV cure.
The classic coating layers are primers, basecoats, topcoats, and clearcoats. A specific parameter in the refinish area that must be addressed is the bottleneck of a 2-hour cure for the primer before it can be sanded. Current UV-cure primers can be sanded within 2 minutes. The need to lower VOCs and volatile HAPs (VHAPs) is among the current constraints for all technologies. A hurdle that was recently cleared in the UV-cure sector is the price barrier for UV light equipment. Reports for the market have UV LED units priced under $1,000.2 This market continues to consolidate and will be required to decrease refinishing speeds to remain competitive.
This article will review the history of the UV-cured 1K and 2K auto-refinish market and formulations for primers and clearcoats. It will also attempt to look at current UV-cured 1K and 2K auto-refinish primers and clearcoats in the global market, new formulations, and new developments in UV equipment.Note de contenu : - CHANGES IN THE AUTOMOTIVE OEM AND REFINISH MARKETS

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The UV-curing technique in combination with the use of waterborne resins is very attractive since it gives the opportunity to get solid coatigs by means of ecofriendly processes. We found that it is possible to use such UV curable water-based formulations as matrices for the preparation of nanocomposites in which the filler is generated in situ by means of the sol-gel chemistry. We prepared silica-based nanocomposites and characterized ther comparing their performances with those of the silica-free coatings. Moreover, the article discusses the influence of the addition of a coupling agent between the organic and inorganic phase on the final properties of the nanocomposites.

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Corrosion protection in the aeronautic industry is a key issue. Nowadays, multilayer coatings are used to project aeronautical metallics strates. A typical system contains hexavalent chromium, or chromate, to provide high active corrosion protection, and comprises three layers applied on a previously-prepared surface. However, hexavalent chromium is an extremely toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic and environmentally hazardous species. Frorn 2017, the use of chromate will be subjected to authorisation under the REACH Directive. Hence, the replacement of chromate compounds is an urgent and major issue for the aeronautic industry. Until now, Airbus Group Business Units including Airbus have succeeded in replacing chromate in the anodising and etching (chemical acid treatment to deoxidise and prepare metallic surfaces) steps. Some alternatives based on inorganic and organic inhibitors, lovv-temperature plasma deposition or sol-gel coatings'' have been investigated so far and reported. None of these approaches fias yet been found to be as efficient as chromate-based coatings. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PART : Materials and coating preparation

Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : DTM coatings aim to ensure corrosion protection, while providing UV stable and glossy films. Photopolymerisable hybrid sol-gel coatings have been found to meet these requirements. The high passive corrosion resistance relies on the hybrid sol-gel ability to form dense barriers to corrosion initiator penetration. A high adhesion property is also provided by the formation of stable covalent bonds between the coating and the metal substrate. Compared to conventional DTM coatings, photopolymerisation presents the a dvantages of a fast curing at room temperature using low energy consumption equipment. The developed UV-cured hybrid sol-gel coatings are chromate-free and applied as a thin mono-layer (25pm dry film thickness (dft)). They provide high corrosion resistance on many metallic substrates, such as aeronautical aluminium alloys and good adhesion on different substrates even composites. Revêtements -- Séchage sous rayonnement ultravioletIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In 2001 IFAM was asked if it could imagine developing a method for the production of microstructured paints for big parts such as ships' hulls, aircraft fuselages, wind-energy rotor blades and others. The reason for that request was the need for drag-reducing surfaces with the ability to reduce fuel consumption in aviation.
Manufacturing a certain surface topography on a paint film can add specific functions to the coatings.
Examples include :
- Decorative effects such as holograms
- Super-hydrophobicity through hierarchic micro- and nanostructures
- Drag-reduction via riblet structures
One major challenge, in particular when it comes to deterministic structures, is the production of such surfaces on large technical, sometimes even curved, structures. Riblet ('sharkin') structures, for example, are designed for utilisation on large surfaces such as ships' hulls, aircraft fuselages and wind turbine rotor blades.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E3ZP2M-aXhawHjR0ytQJA0gnfvn4l5r2/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=18350
