In some applications, for example, temporary contact biomedical devices or solar water heaters, corrosion resistance may need further improvement, and surface coatings may be applied for enhanced protection. In this study, AISI 316 stainless steel samples with two different standard industrial finishes were coated using atomic layer deposition (ALD) of Al2O3/TiO2 layers. The morphology, composition and corrosion protection was then investigated using different techniques. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to obtain a morphological characterization of coatings and substrates. Glow discharge optical emission spectrometry (GDOES) was used to obtain an in-depth profile of composition. Polarization curves in a 0.2 M NaCl solution were used to evaluate the corrosion protection given by the coatings. The deposited ALD layers were found to be almost flawless. The measured RMS roughness values were compared before and after the ALD, and were around 50 and 370 nm for the two samples. GDOES profiles were strongly influenced by the roughness of the substrate. The corrosion protection obtained on AISI 316 stainless steel by the application of nanometric coatings proved to be very effective in reducing the passive region current density from 10−7 to less than 10−9 A/cm2 and increasing the passive region potential interval from 0.8 to 1.3 V before breakdown.

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The thermal and mechanical stability of amphiphobic anti-corrosion coating is evaluated in this study. The coating was fabricated from functionalized nano Al2O3 and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and analyzed using FTIR, DSC, TGA, XRD, abrasion and cross-hatched adhesion test analyses. DSC and XRD revealed the presence of multiple crystalline phases of PVDF in the coating which eventually increased the crystallinity and melting temperature. The removal of the CFx chain from alkylsilane occurred at elevated temperatures, which decreased the repellent characteristic. Overall, the coating demonstrated good thermal stability until the temperature of 450°C with the ISO class 2 adhesion.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : TiO2 is one of the most widely used opacifier for paint and polymers. The semiconductor like band structure of TiO2 imparts properties like UV absorption as well as photosensitizing propertÃes. Lot of research has been done on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2. It has been proved that TiO2 degrades most of the organics leading to complete mineralization into water and carbon dioxide. Similar degradation is also expected in polymers. Moreover, TiO2 not only degrades the polymer but also hampers the activity of the other additives present. This photocatalytic activity depends on many parameters like the type of molecule, the crystal structure and particle size of TiO2 etc. This activity of TiO2 can be curbed by coating it with silica, alumina etc. Thus, coated nanosized rutile form of TiO2 can act as a transparent UV block. Moreover, TiO2 may be used for the degradation of polymeric waste as it gives environmentally benign products. This may have potential to solve the problem of plastic waste disposal. SpectrophotométrieIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : A flow-injection spectrophotometric method for the determination of aluminium(III) has been described. The method is based on the reaction Al(III) with morin to form a yellow complex with maximum absorption at 425nm in the presence of cationic surfactant CPC and glacial acetic acid. In the presence of cationic surfactant CPC, the sensitivity of the chromogenic reaction was greatly improved. Under the optimized conditions, calibration graphs for Al(III) are linear in the range 5-150g l-1 with a detection limit of 0.0125g l-1 (3σ). The reproducibility was satisfactory with a relative standard deviation of 1.7% for ten determinations of 50μg l-1 Al(III). With a sample solution of 450μl being injected, the sampling frequency is 60/h. Spectroscopie RamanIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Oxidised aluminum coatings are useful in various high technology applications to protect surfaces from negative environmental effects. In this study, aluminum discs and foils of industrial alloys were anodised in a sulphuric acid/oxalic acid electrolyte. Scanning electron microscopy was used to determine the pore diameter, distribution and surface porosity. The anodising procedure was adapted to produce near‐hollow templates on aluminium foil, onto which aqueous solutions of commercial chromium‐complexed anionic azodyes were dropped. Raman spectroscopy was used to detect the penetration of dye compounds based on the most intensive vibrational modes. Each dye was successfully monitored to assess its penetration rate and behaviour in the anodised coating. This method could be applied to characterise newly developed organic dyes for aluminum colouring. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Procedure - Characterisation
