ZéolitesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The leather industry transforms raw hides into leather by mechanical and chemical processes. The main chemical process is the tanning in which the fibers are stabilized and cannot putrefy. To this end, different chemicals can be used that are capable of forming crosslinkages between collagen molecules. In this sense, the most used products are: chromium salts, aluminum, vegetable tannins, synthetics, aldehydes, resins and silicates. In this work, a new biodegradable tanning process based on zeolites was studied in two steps. In the first one, a tanning process for sheepskins and cow hides was developed. In the second one, three types of retanning process to obtain shoe upper, vegetable and leather goods were studied. This new system allows to obtain leather that can decompose naturally in a relative short period of time. Leather tanned with this system shows similar values to the biodegradability of pure collagen.
Specifically, with the retanning system used for shoe upper allows to obtain a 74.4% relative biodegradability compared to pure collagen.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Zeolites tanning process - Study of three types of retanning for the new tanning system

Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Strength deals with the durability of materials during usage and therefore is an important criterion for performance evaluation. Leather goods, which continue to be preferred by many over artificial substitutes, need to exhibit durable material performance. Strength testing, as related to an understanding of the endurance against force, is an important component of overall material behavior. Therefore, tensile testing should be well developed so as to analyze the properties of finished leathers and acquire realistic practical data. This study deals, in detail, with the evaluation of tensile properties considering the differences between engineering stress and true stress. In this examination of tensile behaviors three groups of garment leathers with different finishes (aniline, semi-aniline, and full pigmented finishes) were used. The samples were evaluated comparing engineering stress and true stress. In a Completely Randomized Design study, the statistical differences were calculated by the Duncan test in the level of P≤0.05. Thereby, statistically significant differences between engineering stress and true stress between each of the three groups was verified. Surfactants fluorésIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Due to negative effects of conventional fluorinated surfactants with long perfluorocarbon chain (CxF2x+ 1, x≥7) like perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), these conventional long perfluorocarbon chain surfactants have been restricted in many industrial applications. Nowadays, their potential non-bioaccumulable alternatives have been developed to meet the requirements of environmental sustainable development. In this paper, the recent advances of potential non-bioaccumulable fluorinated surfactants with different fluorocarbon chain structures, including the short perfluorocarbon chain, the branched fluorocarbon chain, and the fluorocarbon chain with weak points, are reviewed from the aspects of synthesis processes, properties, and structure-activity relationships. And their applications in emulsion polymerization of fluorinated olefins, handling membrane proteins, and leather manufacture also are summarized. Furthermore, the challenges embedded in the current non-bioaccumulable fluorinated surfactants are also highlighted and discussed with the hope to provide a valuable reference for the prosperous development of fluorinated surfactants.
