The experiments were carried out at three different laser powers ranging from 4.5 to 6 W to determine the effect of laser treatment on fabric properties. In particular, the influence of laser irradiation on the dyeing properties of treated fabrics with CI Reactive Blue 198 was studied. The colour change of laser-treated fabrics was determined by calculation of the K/S values as a function of fabric reflectance. The morphological changes in laser-treated fabrics were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The effects of laser treatment on the properties of raw and bleached cotton fabrics were varied. For instance, the wettability of raw cotton samples was reduced after laser irradiation, whereas the wettability of bleached cotton fabrics was greater. Possible reasons for the various dyeing behaviours observed with irradiation at different laser powers are discussed. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized using ultraviolet visible spectra, X-ray diffractometry and transmission electron microscopy. Through transmission electron microscopy, the nanostructure was confirmed. The prepared silver nanoparticles were about 86 nm in size with a face-centered cubic crystalline nature. The silver nanoparticles coated on cotton fabric were characterized using a scanning electron microscope. The scanning electron microscope images showed uniform coating of silver nanoparticles on the surface of fabrics. The antibacterial activities of the silver nanoparticle-coated fabric were investigated against the strain of Staphylococcus aureus culture, and it exhibited good antibacterial activity. The tensile strength of the cotton fabric increased considerably when the silver nanoparticles were coated on it. The ultrasonication process gave rise to the higher tensile strength. Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The incorporation of nanoparticles (NPs) into textile fabrics can transform ordinary products to endow the new functional characteristics owing to their interesting surface characteristics. The surface functionalization of NPs can play a key role in controlling the colloidal stability followed by interactions between substrate and NPs leading to enhanced functional characteristics. Here, the synthesis of ZnO NPs was carried out through hydrothermal method. The surface of NPs was modified using silanol and tertiary amine-based coupling agents. The functionalized NPs were characterized using zeta potential, size distribution, XRD, EDX, and FTIR. The size of prepared NPs was observed as 34 nm. The disperse stability of functionalized NPs was studied by varying the concentration of coupling agent and assessed through the ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) and antibacterial activity of the fabrics treated with functionalized NPs. The functionalized NPs exhibited stable dispersion with higher zeta potential and have a smaller size. A significant improvement in the UPF value and antibacterial activity of treated cotton fabrics was observed. Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Cationic copolymer nanoparticles were used to modify Apocynum venetum/cotton blended fabrics. The modified blends were then dyed using CI Acid Red 14. In order to enhance the colour performance, the effects of combined pretreatment using nanoparticles and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) or plasma were investigated. The results show that combined pretreatment with NaOH and nanoparticles improved the dyeing effect. The optimum concentrations of NaOH and nanoparticles were 100 and 2 g l?1 respectively. In addition, using CMC to pretreat the fabrics could also improve the acid dyeing performance. However, the combination of plasma pretreatment and cationic nanoparticle modification produced the best colour performance for acid-dyed A. venetum/cotton blends. The dye exhaustion rate is highest (up to 95%) with plasma pretreatment. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that combined treatment with plasma and nanoparticles resulted in a far greater number of nanoparticles being deposited on the fibre surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicated that the pretreatments with different procedures significantly changed the chemical components of the fibre surfaces. The aromatic rings of acid dye molecules covered the fibre surfaces after plasma and nanoparticle pretreatment and acid dyeing. Note de contenu : - Colour properties of the dyes blends
