RhéologieIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Polymer composites with polyethylene (PE), microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), and coupling agent (PE-g-MA) were melt blended using a single screw extruder (SSE), twin screw extruder (TSE), and a combination of SSE and extensional flow mixer (EFM) and masterbatch method (MB). The rheological behavior, mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties were investigated to compare material behavior of the MCC-filled PE composites and to evaluate the dispersive mixing efficiency. The composite samples prepared using a single pass method in SSE had relatively larger storage moduli (G?) while those from the TSE and SSE + EFM were smaller. The complex viscosities (?*) of composites with processed using EFM was higher than that of neat PE, indicating better dispersion of the MCC.MCC-filled PE composites processed with EFM showed higher tan delta compared to those of composites. In general, MCC-filled PE composites from the EFM process showed higher viscosity compared to all other composites at all shear rates. The EFM method improved flexural properties more than the other processing methods. The effect of EFM on impact strength of the composites was improved with coupling agent. Addition of MCC, couple agent, and different mixing methods did not significantly affect the thermal properties of the MCC-filled PE composites. The alkali treatment was performed using NaOH solution at a room temperature. The laminated composites was manufactured using a vacuum infusion method for three layers of treated woven ramie fibers in the polyester matrix. The MCC (microcrystalline cellulose) powder 0.5 wt.% was added into the polyester resin and then mixed by a mechanical stirrer at a rotation speed of 350 rpm for 5 minutes. The physical characterization was evaluated using FTIR, XRD, and SEM methods. The tensile test of a single fiber and laminated composites was carried out according to the ASTM D3379 and ASTM D3039, respectively. The experimental results show that the XRD of treated fiber with 5 wt.% NaOH solution has the highest crystallinity index of 66.3%. It impacts the increase of tensile strength and elastic modulus of single ramie fiber by 18% and 55%, respectively. The addition of MCC into the polyester matrix of laminated composite can increase the tensile strength and elastic modulus by 18% and 21%, respectively, compared to the untreated laminated composite. In addition, the treated fibers laminated composite can improve the adhesion and chemical bonding between fibers and polyester as a matrix. The addition of MCC filler may prevent the initial propagation of cracks on interlaminar surfaces of laminated composite. Subsequently, SFD-CNC together with the SD-CNC (used as a reference) were incorporated into LLDPE and HDPE via melt compounding in a batch mixer to produce nanocomposites containing 0.5 wt.° and 2 wt.° CNC. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to study the thermal properties and the isothermal crystallization kinetics of the polyethylenes and the nanocomposites. Polarized light microscopy (PLM) was used to evaluate the growth kinetics and spherulitic structure of polyethylene in both the filled and unfilled polymers. Avrami crystallization kinetics models were employed to analyze the DSC results. It was observed that CNC acts as a heterogeneous nucleating agent in LLDPE nanocomposites, thus yielding nucleation controlled crystallization. On the other hand, in the HDPE systems (polymer and nanocomposites) heterogeneous nucleation was followed by 3-D growth. It was observed that CNC slightly hindered the formation of chain folding for the HDPE, similar to previous studies on the polypropylene and its nanocomposites. Spray freeze drying produced twice as many nucleation sites compared to spray dried samples and it enhanced the overall crystallization rate and the crystallinity. QuebrachoLe quebracho est un arbre à écorce ligneuse, mesurant 30 mètres de haut, à feuilles tannées et à fleurs tubulées blanches.
Quebracho est l'un des noms communs, en espagnol, d'au moins trois espèces similaires d'arbres originaires du Gran Chaco, en Amérique latine : Schinopsis lorentzii (quebracho colorado santiagueño), de la famille des Anacardiaceae ; Schinopsis balansae (quebracho colorado chaqueño), de la même famille ;

Untreated beech wood blocks and beech wood blocks treated with Tanalith-E were used as control samples. Test samples were exposed to accelerated weathering processes of 100 and 300 h. According to the test results, the mean adhesion strength of the wood samples impregnated with mimosa and quebracho tannins decreased by a maximum of 20%, while increases in the mean surface roughness (Ra) were detected. The highest adhesion strength and lowest mean surface roughness were obtained with polyurethane varnish. Moreover, the mean adhesion strength increased with the accelerated weathering up to 100 h and then decreased thereafter. As a result of the weathering process, the mean surface roughness increased and was thus negatively affected.
