VernisIndex. décimale : 667.7 Cires, laques, vernis Résumé : This study aimed to determine the effect of accelerated weathering on gloss, surface hardness and colour changes of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.). Test samples were impregnated with Adolit KD-5, Wolmanit CX-8 and Celcure AC-500 covered with cellulosic and polyurethane varnishes. The results showed that the values of surface hardness and gloss increased after accelerated weathering. While the surface hardness of Scots pine was increased for impregnated and polyurethane-coated varnish, it decreased for impregnated and cellulosic varnish-coated Scots pine after 1000 hours of accelerated weathering exposure. Copper-based chemical impregnation and varnish coating developed the gloss of Scots pine specimens relative to the surface characteristics observed in single-coated Scots pine specimens. While the most appropriate chemical was Celcure AC-500 for surface hardness, it was Adolit KD-5 for the gloss of Scots pine after 1000 hours of accelerated weathering exposure. Wood specimens impregnated prior to the application of varnish were more effective in stabilising the colour of Scots pine than Scots pine only coated with varnish. Polyurethane varnish-treated Scots pine showed better colour stability for each partial and total accelerated weathering exposure period. The total colour changes were lowest for polyurethane varnish-coated Scots pine impregnated with Celcure AC-500 after 1000 hours of accelerated weathering exposure. Revêtements en phase aqueuse -- Additifs:Peinture en phase aqueuse -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : Let's now go to the next additive called Thickeners. This is also an important additive which plays a vital role in bringing a uniform consistency of Water based Paints. Thickeners have mainly two functions, they increase the viscosity thereby, reducing the Pigment mobility to prevent settling and they change the flow and levelling characteristics. The most commonly used thickeners are derivatives of Carboxy Methyl Cellulose and Hydroxy Methyl Cellulose. However they suffer from certain disadvantages viz: poor flow and levelling, sensitive towards enzyme degradation. Thickening agents at moderate shear increase the viscosity and increase the coatings resistance to flow du ring stirring, mixing and pouring. Rheology modifiers are necessary additives to prevent sagging and spatter during application. They also help to retain supply viscosity, provide anti-sag control, water retention/open time, spatter and scrub resistance. Note de contenu : - Structure of hydroxy ethyl cellulose (HEC)

Isotherme d'adsorptionIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Adsorptive removal of Ni2+ from aqueous solution by low cost cellulosic adsorbent was investigated with respect to adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm. Adsorbent was characterized by BET surface area, SEM, EDX, FTIR and Zeta potential technique and reported earlier. The surfaces contain carbonyl and hydroxyl functional groups, which act as binding sites for Ni2+ ion. Adsorption kinetics of Ni2+ was tested by first order, Elovich, parabolic diffusion and Bangham kinetic equations. Thermodynamic parameters like ?H?, ?S? and ?G? were calculated from the kinetic data. The rate of adsorption was high at high adsorption temperature. Positive values of ?S? reflect some structural exchange among the active site of the adsorbent and metal ion. Freundlich, Langmuir, Temkin isotherms and distribution coefficient were found fit to the adsorption isotherm data..
