It is an excellent moisturizing ingredient for topical preparations. Besides it has very good antimicrobial and solubilizing properties. It also improves the water resistance of sunscreen formulations. This paper discusses the studies that exemplify the multifunctional aspects of 1,2-Pentanediol. It also discusses the results of a new study, which looks at the effect of 1,2-Pentanediol on the particle size and particle size distribution of an oil-in-water emulsion. The new study shows that 1,2-Pentanediol is able to significantly reduce the particle size of cosmetic emulsions. Furthermore, sensory studies with emulsions containing 1,2-Pentanediol demonstrated that the appearance and the tactile properties of cosmetic emulsions are also improved by the addition of this multifunctional ingredient. Outdoor stress factors, such as UV radiation and air pollution, have been already recognised for their rote in accelerating skin ageing. The role of indoor factors has not been well highlighted yet.
High energy visible (HEV) blue light is both an indoor and outdoor environmental factor, whose long-terni exposure contributes to accelerate premature ageing. Blue light is a portion of visible light (400 nm-500 nm) that causes a strong production of radical oxygen species (ROS) and other free radicals, which, in turn, affect cell viability and cellular components such as DNA, lipids and proteins. Blue light radiation cornes from the sun, but mainly from electronic devices (e.g. TVs, smartphones, PCs and tablets) we are constantly exposed to.
Bionap proposes an olive fruit extractto counteract the signs related to blue light exposure. Olive fruit extract is a natural and eco-friendly ingredient hat originates from a by-product of Sicilian olive oil production. The capability of olive fruit extract to reduce the effects of blue light was tested on human epidermal keratinocytes and fibroblasts treated with light-emitting diode-generated blue light (LED-BL).
We evaluated cell viability, ROS production, DNA damage and the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-1, MMP-12) and collagen type 1. In vitro tests demonstrated that olive fruit extract was able to protect skin cells from blue light. Furthermore, the extract strongly reduces ROS production, protects DNA from oxidative damage, decreases the expression of MMP-1 and MMP-12 and promotes the synthesis of collagen type I. The extract was previously tested on UV radiation, demonstrating to be capable of contrasting the signs of UV exposure.
Therefore, Bionap's olive fruit extract is a promising natural and sustainable ingredient to counteract and reduce premature ageing from indoor and outdoor environmental factors.Note de contenu : - Experimental protocol

Sécrétion -- RégulationIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : There is something many of us remember from our teenage years but only a few associate with adulthood: oily skin. Oily skin is a major issue, because it affects those areas that are the most exposed, like the chin, forehead and nose. Oily and impure skin causes a real aesthetic problem and may lead to higher acne susceptibility. Even in adults, a healthy facial skin and complexion play an important role. Consumers around the world have become very self-conscious of their appearance. But overactive sebaceous glands may cause a visible problem. Skin appears as if it were not properly cared for, with large pores and an uneven look. The three Rs of RonaCare® SereneShield (INCI: Butyl Hydroxycyclohexane Carboxylate) provide a fitting solution where the success lies in regulation, reduction and rebalancing.
Excessive production of sebum is a key contributor to acne. Regulating the amount of sebum on oily skin can reduce the susceptibility to acne development. Simultaneously, one root cause of acne is the development of inflammatory metabolites (porphyrins), originating from Propionibacterium acnes. By reducing the production ability of these irritating inflammatory compounds, acne formation will less likely take root and less likely create the skin appearance we may associate with adolescence. In addition, rebalancing skin's microflore represents a naturel way to create more harmony and a basic principle to strengthen the skin's defence system.Note de contenu : - FIGURES : 1. 3R-effect of butylhydroxycyclohexane carboxylate - 2.
