Textiles et tissus -- LavageIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : As more and more consumers look for environmentally friendly laundry products but demands for effective washing performance remain high, detergent producers face the dilemma of how to increase the renewable carbon content without compromising on stain removal, extended clothing life and fabric preservation.
To provide support in tackling these aspects, Clariant has focused on fulfilling the gap in the Home Care market for a renewable-based soil release polymer that performs. It introduces the first bio-based, non-synthetically sourced soil release polymer for liquid laundry detergents (INCI: nonionic polyester). TexCare® SRN 260 Life is based on non-tropical raw materials, with a Renewable Carbon index (RCI) of 80 %, and is readily biodegradable. Laboratory soil release and anti-deposition tests to evaluate performance and demonstrate effectiveness were conducted on synthetic-based fabrics. Those washed with liquid laundry detergent containing the novel soil release polymer came out up to six times cleaner than those washed with detergent only. It also prevented the redeposition of dirt during washing, which is the main culprit for graying, almost two times better than a standard detergent alone. The bio-based origin, and outstanding performance in soil release and in building a shield against stains provide unique support for more sustainable laundry products.Note de contenu : - First bio-based soil release polymer

Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Clostridioides difficile associated infections (CDI) develop frequently in hospitalized, elderly patients after an antibiotic treatment. The infection is highly contagious and can be transmitted to other patients when cleaning and disinfection measures are insufficient. Textiles like bed linens or health care personnel uniforms can be involved in the spread of CDI. Spore-forming bacteria are difficult to inactivate and laundering processes efficient against pathogens like Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus, may be insufficient for C. difficile spores.
In the present study, the sporicidal effect of laundering processes was investigated systematically. Simulated washing tests were performed with biomonitors containing Bacillus subtilis spores. B. subtilis is a suitable model strain for C. difficile with comparable tolerance against disinfectants, heat and extreme pH values. The efficiency of different Peracetic acid (PAA) and sodium hypochlorite concentrations against B. subtilis spores was tested at different temperatures and contact times. Furthermore, a bleach-containing household detergent was included in the investigation.
PAA concentrations, typically applied in I&I laundry cycles, were able to reduce B. subtilis spores sufficiently. Less effective were the tested NaClO-concentrations. The household laundry detergent failed to remove a significant number of bacterial spores.Note de contenu : - Table 1 : Test conditions of the simulated washing tests (suspension tests with biomonitors)

Textiles et tissus -- LavageIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : The counter-effect of protease on cellulase performance in liquid detergents is well-known. DuPont set out to develop a more stable cellulase with a much higher resistance to the degrading effects of subtilisin than currently available enzymes. Using molecular modelling and structure function analysis, it was determined which regions of the cellulase might be susceptible to protease degradation. Molecular genetic techniques were used to generate variant enzymes in the regions identified. High Throughput Screening technology helped to determine a selection of enzymes for further testing/optimization.
At a later stage of development, biochemical and application testing was employed to test the more promising variants for two parameters: (1) Performance in a washing machine in the presence of a typical protease, to test for protease-resistance in consumer-relevant conditions. (2) Stability in a liquid detergent in storage at elevated temperature over a period of 28 days. The results of the development and testing of this new cellulase are detailed in this article. The main conclusions were :
- In a comparison against a competitive cellulase, using different washing conditions for different regions, de-pilling and color renewal were substantially improved
- A significant improvement of the cellulase activity in a protease-containing detergent over 28 days of storage was established.Note de contenu : - RESEARCHING THE DEMAND FOR A MORE EFFECTIVE CELLULASE

Produits nettoyantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : In many cleaning product applications in the market place, the inclusion of sodium benzoate as a stand-alone preservative is providing sufficient microbial control. It was observed that inclusion levels are typically lower, resulting in economical use and, consequently, feasibility in a wider pH range of cleaning products compared to what was generally believed. For sodium benzoate
to effectively preserve, formulations require sufficient concentrations of the undissociated organic acid, which is benzoic acid. The acid equilibrium constant (pKa) of benzoic acid determines the degree of acid dissociation, and a larger value would result in increased benzoic acid concentrations. Titrations show that in the presence of home care surfactants, the apparent pK’a increases as surfactant concentration increases, indicating a higher concentration of the active substance. This was confirmed with 13CNMR. Microbial challenge testing was performed to verify that the increased apparent pK’a yields increased antimicrobial efficacy. A surfactant was selected to increase the benzoic apparent pK’a with substantial improvements in microbe reductions versus controls. Finally, a theoretical model based on surfactant properties was adopted to explain the observed pK’a increases. This model provides a basis for detailed formulation advice and justification to the enhanced antimicrobial efficacy of Kalaguard® SB sodium benzoate.Note de contenu : - BACKGROUND : Mechanisms for antimicrobial action and pK' a shifts

Note de contenu : - DEFINITION
