RetannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Amino resins have played an important role in the manufacture of leather due to their outstanding filling and dyeing properties. However, a traditionally prepared amino resin usually contains free formaldehyde, which is strictly restricted in leather products. With increasing awareness of potential health problems with formaldehyde, there is a growing demand for formaldehyde-free leathers in the global leather market. In this study, a formaldehyde-free amino resin was synthesized by using glyoxal as condensing agent, and its retanning properties were investigated. It was found that the glyoxal can be used to replace formaldehyde to synthesize an amino resin, and the optimal reaction conditions were that the molar ratio of melamine to glyoxal was 1:6, reaction temperature was 333K and reaction time was 3 hours.
Retanning experiments with the prepared amino resin indicated that its retanning properties, including fullness, softness, general appearance of the leather and mechanical strength, are better or equal to those that of a traditionally prepared amino resin.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Materials - Preparation of MG - Characterization of MG - FTIR analysis

Tannage Résumé : A transamidification reaction was utilized to prepare low molecular polypolypeptides from chicken feathers and the transamidified polypeptides were subsequently acylated with maleic anhydride and co-polymerized with acrylic acid to form graft co-polymerized polypeptides. The reactions were confirmed by GPC, DSC and IR spectra. The effect of the resultant product on dyestuff exhaustion and physical properties of crust was investigated by applying it to goatskin wet-blues. The results show that under the conditions prescribed the transamidification predominantly gives rise to two fractions of polypeptides which correspond to number-average molecular weight 1698Da and 752Da, and the maleylation introduces 1.90-2.05mol of maleyl groups per kilogram into the transamidified polypeptides The co-polymerization gives rise to four fractions of the graft copolymerized polypeptides which correspond to number-average molecular weights 9583Da, 3105Da, 1945Da and 823Da. Retanning with the graft copolymerized polypeptides results in an improvement in the strength and extensions of the crust and does not cause any obvious reduction in dyestuff exhaustion. Tannage Résumé : Acrylic resin (AR) is one of the most commonly used leather retanning agents owing to its excellent selective filling property and low cost. However, there are some defects affecting the quality of wet-blue leather in the practical application of AR, such as “excessive convergence”, “detanning”, and “fading”. Herein, the nonionic short fluorocarbon chain surfactants (F6-m) combined with AR for retanning wet-blue goat leather to further improve the application properties of AR. In a series of comparative experiments, the grain surface state and mechanical properties of leather retanned with 4 wt% AR and 2wt% F6-400 are preferred. Moreover, after dyeing, the dye adsorption rate and a* (red-greenness) value of AR/F6-400 retanned leather are higher than that of leather retanned with AR alone. The above issues reveal that F6-400 can improve application properties of AR in the retanning of wet-blue leather to a certain extent, benefiting to further upgrade the quality of leather. RetannageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Manufacturers or surface coatings, particularly white, have long relied upon the use of titanium dioxide as the prime pigment in their industry. In recent years two factors have combined to spur the search for an alternative material to replace titanium dioxide. These factors are, not too surprisingly, price and availability. Amongst a number of potential replacement materials a considerable development effort has been undertaken to produce a novel polymeric additive for this purpose. This development effort has resulted in a series of polymers that are significantly different from the "normal" emulsion polymers known up to now. This paper describes the basic characteristics of one such polymer. The polymer in question is principally used, at present, in retanning applications where it has found wider use than simply as a titanium replacement. Results of a comparative study are presented to demonstrate the advantages that application of this polymer have on the general characteristics of retanned leather.
