RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The structural features of associative thickeners influence their viscosifying properties in neat and surfactant containing aqueous solutions and in architectural coating formulations. Our understanding of the phenomena based on model associative thickener of the Hydrophobically modified Ethoxylate URethane (HEUR) type are presented. These studies provide general concepts in aqueous solutions, but they do not provide a quantitative model for understanding the influence of associative thickeners in coating formulations. To provide a more quantitative description, the interactions of associative thickeners with the film forming latex are considered in this study. This requires a knowledge of the free surfactant concentration in the formulation that depends on the residual amount present in the latex and the amounts added with the pigment grind, colorant, etc. The competitive interaction of the surfactants and associative thickener types for the surface of both disperse phases is a key variable. These interactions with the latex will be discussed in this article in an effort to define an encompassing model for understanding how HEUR associative thickeners influence waterborne coatings.

Keeping steel and metal structures safe from corrosion can be difficult, especially when traditional coatings regularly contain toxic chemicals that harm the environment and aquatic life. Corrosion can be defined as an electrochemical reaction between a material, usually a metal, and its environment that causes a deterioration of the material and its properties.
It is a naturel process which converts refined metals into a more chemically stable form, such as oxide hydroxide, carbonate or sulphide. In summary, it is the graduai destruction (or ageing) of materials by chemical and/or its electrochemical reaction with its environment.Note de contenu : - The cost of corrosion

Revêtements -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polyester polyol chemistry has been used extensively as a binder option in high performance industrial coatings applications for decades. Limitations of traditional polyester technology, such as weathering and chemical resistance have restricted its use to a co¬binder due to the high level of performance requirements associated with these markets. Translating the use of a speciality monomer from copolyesters for thermoplastic applications, chemists at Eastman have evaluated the effectiveness of a unique glycol molecule as a building block in copolyester coatings resins targeted for use in automotive coatings, metal packaging applications for food cans and industrial applications like the agricultural and construction segment. Proven to enhance the hydrolytic stability and offer a balance of flexibility and hardness, the speciality polyol is enabling distinctive binder properties to address ever-changing global coatings needs. Fulfilling performance targets across very diverse fitness for use criterion, this paper capitalises on the versatility of the speciality polyol platform of resins.Through performance comparisons to next best alternative technologies, the improved durability will highlight the advantage of this next generation of polyol chemistry. SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Waxes are increasingly being used as surfactant conditioner additives as they are more economical, reliable and safer.
Among the huge plethora of additives available today, waxes have a significant impact on many formulations or processes. They are cheaper, more reliable and less often associated with side effects even if used in relatively small quantities - typically below 3% solids content of the total composition.
Waxes impart or improve effects as various as slip and lubrification, abrasion resistance, anti-blocking, mating, water repellency ..., all critical properties in the paint, coating and ink areas. As a result waxes are often classified as Surface Conditioner Additives.Note de contenu : - WAX DEFINITION AND TYPES
