Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : An examination is made of the effects of temperature and certain additives on the rate and amount of water uptake by sheepskins. The effect of temperature is only evident in the early stages of uptake and does not affect the final uptake. Increase of temperature however often has side effects on water uptake. None of the additives tested increases the rate or amount of water uptake. Hydrophobic bond breaking agents are ineffective in increasing the amount of water taken up. A mechanism of water uptake is proposed. Effective soaking involves more than mere uptake of water by the skin and necessitates some internai changes in the skin structure. In the center and southwest of Morocco, there is an endemic tree "Argania Spinosa" known as the ironwood. The miraculous product of this millenary tree is argan oil. Known for its therapeutic and cosmetic properties. Only 20% of the fruit of the argan tree is intended for the manufacture of argan oil while the shell, which represents 80%, remains an unexploited resource. This hull, which is sold by farmers at low prices, is used as fuel for baths and Moorish bakeries. In order to value the shells ; first, we sort, grind and sieve them. Second, we bind the particles into adhesive. Three biomaterials are based on three particle sizes of shell grains. The designed particles are bound with an adhesive powder that is produced from a pre-catalyzed urea-formaldehyde resin. Moreover, the water used is a non-polluting solvent. The biomaterials and two samples of Red and Beech Wood were immersed in water for 15 days, with mass measurements that were done on a daily basis. It was concluded that the swelling coefficient of the large distribution of biomaterial is smaller than the small distribution of biomaterial. However, Red and Beech Wood have the highest coefficient.Note de contenu : - Procedure

Essais (technologie)

Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In order to explore the mechanism of interaction between DMTMM and collagen-based materials, gelatin was used as a skin simulant and prepare DMTMM crosslinked modified gelatin materials. FT-IR and Zeta potential measurements were used to analyze and characterize DMTMM crosslinking modified gelatin materials; revealing the mechanism of interaction between DMTMM and collagen-based materials. Firstly, the “zero-length” crosslinking agent DMTMM activated the carboxyl groups on the collagen-based materials and promoted the formation of amide bonds between the collagen-based materials. At the same time, the hydrogen bond formed between the hydroxyl group and its active group causes zero-length crosslinking modification of collagen-based material under the joint action of these two kinds of bonding. DSC, TG, swelling properties, SEM and other analytical methods were used to test the thermal stability and microstructure of DMTMM crosslinked modified gelatin materials. It was found that DMTMM can effectively improve the stability of collagen-based materials, increase the thermal denaturation temperature and humidity and reduce the decomposition rate. Gonflement (physique)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Examination of any book on leather science will always talk about the collagen swelling effects seen at the secondary or tertiary level of protein hierarchy. The exact description and the prominence of which types of swelling exist in the material at specific parts of the process cycle can be left up to the academics to debate.
As with most science, the frustration that exists between technologists and the theoreticians are real. Like many leather scientific theories, the facts (that usually make perfect sense) and the reality seen in the liming or pickle drum are often confusing.
A common example of this is the description of the leading type of swelling that is seen during liming. The controls that the tanner uses to overcome this swelling often appear to be contradictory, or at the very least do not seem to equate to the effects that one would expect given the theory.Note de contenu : - Revision of swelling : Lyotropic - Electrostatic

Transition vitreuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The chemical modifications of castor oil (CO) to develop branched polyols and their polyurethane-urea coatings have been investigated. For this purpose, castor oil-based branched polyols (COBPs) were synthesized from CO by modifying with succinic anhydride followed by reaction with hydroxyl group moieties like petrochemical-based pentaerythritol, trimethylolpropane and bio-based glycerol. The COBPs were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies, gel permeation chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry. These COBPs were further urethanized with isophorone diisocyanate at OH/NCO ratio of 1:1.6 to get the isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymers. The surplus isocyanate groups of the prepolymer were cured with atmospheric moisture at ambient temperature condition to form uniform film with fast surface drying. The thermo-mechanical, viscoelastic and swelling properties were evaluated for the cured coating films. Properties have been discussed from the viewpoint of branched network and also the urethane segment present in the structure. The glass transition temperatures of the coating films were found to be in the range of 32–64°C. The modified castor oil coating films show better thermo-mechanical and viscoelastic properties in comparison with control (unmodified castor oil) coating films. This work delivers an effective and promising way to synthesize branched moieties in plant oil-based high performance coatings. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL SECTION : Materials
