Transition vitreuseIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : We report the dynamic mechanical behaviour of leather within the temperature range - 100 to 300°C, where three major viscoelastic transitions were identified, termed α, β and γ. The β transition peak represents the glass transition temperature of the amorphous region of collagen molecules. It also demonstrates that tanning agents act as plasticisers and depress the glass transition temperature to a lower temperature. Thus, the tanning process itself may be viewed as a plasticisation of the collagen molecule : the tanning molecules interpose themselves between the collagen chains, thus reducing the forces holding the chains together. Different tanning agents show differing degrees of plasticisation.

Tannage Résumé : A chromium-free amphoteric polymer retanning agent was prepared by free radical polymerization reaction of undecylenic aldehyde (UAL), acrylic acid (AA) and dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride (DADMAC) as raw materials. The structure of amphoteric polymer retanning agent was characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. Amphoteric polymer retanning agent was applied to the retanning of vegetable-tanned light leather to investigate the binding ability of crust leather to anionic dyes, fat liquoring agent and physical-mechanical properties of the crust leather. The results showed that the synthesized amphoteric polymer retanning agent was successfully prepared. The application trial indicated that the amphoteric polymer retanning agent can improve the binding capacity between leather and anion dye and fat liquoring agent in the retanning process. The dye absorption rate of the crust leather was up to 99.58% and the dyeing liquor was clear. Furthermore, color of the crust leather was uniform and full and its K/S value and drywet rub fastness, thickening rate and physical-mechanical properties were higher than that of the retanned leather by acrylic resin retanning agent. In addition, the crust leather after retanning with amphoteric polymer retanning agent has good softness, and the absorption rate of fat liquoring agent was 99.62%. The above results showed that amphoteric polymer retanning agent possessed the good retanning property in vegetable tanned sheep garment leather.

Tannage Résumé : We have investigated the influence of tanning agents on grafting butyl acrylate onto the low value lower split of limed hide. The results obtained indicate that the level of grafting increases in the order Al > Cr >Al+Cr. This is ascribed to the presence of a greater number of free sites in hide tanned with Al.
We also note that initiator [I] and monomer [M] concentration play an important role on the grafting level, time and temperature of reaction also have an effect. Increasing [I] and [M] concentrations increases the grafting level up to a certain concentration for each one, after which the rate of grafting tends to level off. This can be attributed to the increase in free radicals which leads to an increase in grafting levels up to the point where homopolymerization exceeds the rate of grafting so the reaction stops. The grafting process was proved via FT-IR.Note de contenu :

Wet-white (tannage)Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : This paper focuses on the effect of masking agents and tanning with zinc and zinc-titanium metal complexes. Sodium formate, sodium acetate, sodium citrate and sodium tartrate were used as masking agents. The best masking condition was chosen corresponding to the highest shrinkage temperature. Zinc sulfate and titanium sulfate, in different concentrations, were chosen as tanning agents in mixed-tanning experiments. The highest shrinkage temperature of the wet-white was 77°C, and the attendant zinc content in its leather was 3.63%. After retannage with chrome powder, the shrinkage temperature of the resultant leather increased as expected, and reached 96°C. The wet-white was successfully split which tend to the use of non-chrome pre-tanning, the finished leather was able to meet the requirements.
• limiter le fluage ;
• limiter le taux de matières volatiles ;
Tannage Résumé : The effects of prepolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) in rotating packed bed (RPB) on the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of polyacrylic acid (PAA) were investigated. Results showed that, compared with conventional polymerization in stirred tank reactor (STR), the prepolymerization in RPB followed by polymerization in STR produced PAA with lower weight-average molecular weight (Mw) and polydispersity index (PDI). The Mw of PAA decreased with increasing rotational speed of RPB from 800 rpm to 1400 rpm. Therefore, the use of RPB might be an effective strategy to control the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of PAA. For exploring the value of this technology in preparing PAA retanning agent, PAAs were synthesized by using STR (STR-PAA, Mw=476,615 Dal, PDI=3.36) and RPB (RPB-PAA, Mw=193,386-288,321 Dal, PDI=1.55-1.86), and their performances in retanning were evaluated. Results showed that RPB-PAAs with low Mw had high absorptivity in wet blue and achieved a good filling property for leather because they could permeate into numerous microstructures of collagen fiber network. As for RPB-PAAs, high PDI led to a satisfactory selective filling property. The fullness, mechanical property, isoelectric point, and dyeability of leather were also affected by PAAs with different Mw and PDI. This work demonstrated the considerable influences of the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of PAA on retanning property. A method to control these parameters was also presented.
