Groupement carboxyle

Revêtements sans isocyanatesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A hydroxyl/carboxyl functional low molecular weight polyurethane dispersion was prepared by a nonisocyanate process. It was compared to a conventional high molecular weight polyurethane dispersion in films cured with melamine-formaldehyde resins. Stress-strain studies and solvent swelling experiments were used to characterize network formation and determine crosslink density. The morphology of the films prepared from the two types of polyurethanes were different, and coatings performance advantages were found with the low molecular weight polyurethane dispersion. Surface analysis by FTIR ATR indicates a more uniform distribution of melamine crosslinker in the cured low molecular weight polyurethane coating. VernisIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The surface topographies of different latex films, varnishes, and white paint films were investigated with an atomic force microscope. Four different latexes, consisting of homogeneous and composite particles as well as mixtures of different particles, were studied. The atomic force microscope proved to be an appropriate tool to reveal the surface structure of the films under ambient conditions. One result was that the gloss of the paint film is strictly correlated to the surface roughness of the corresponding pure latex film. With the exception of one example, the study revealed that solvents needed to prepare a varnish tend to reduce the surface roughness. Revêtements -- Industrie et commerceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Intuition plays a vital role in successful R&D. Often the nonconforming technologist is the most intuitive, and this attribute helps in the technologist's innovative productivity. The author attributes the superior innovative productivity of certain individuals in his laboratories to their intuition. Colleagues in the same facility with similar domain experience, knowledge, education, motivation, and intelligence generally failed with comparable, difficult projects. Weston Agor's Aim Survey, which assesses the relationship of intuition to the successful performance of top managers, can be used to evaluate the role of intuition in the performance of R&D people. Subjective intuition scores of 18 of the author's long(time colleagues with Aim Survey scores were reasonably congruent. This survey thus appears to be a meaningful way to assess intuition potential of R&D personnel. Note de contenu : - Applying the aim survey

Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Although thermoplastic dispersions have reached a high level of sophistication, there is a place in the market for the more environmentally friendly alkyd emulsions where high gloss can be obtained without cosolvents, amines, and the like. Water, alkyd, nonionic surfactant, and the appropriate equipment is all one needs to make a clear varnish with >85% gloss under 20°, dry in three to five hours.
With the present state of technology, it is unlikely that alkyd emulsions can match the performance of the present solvent-based siliconized alkyds and other extreme outdoor durable systems.
Beacause of their more conventional permeability behavior and the higher applied layer thickness, high solids seem more suitable for this purpose. Going to the lower end of the market, high-solids systems can be applied in specific segments, taking into account limitations like its price, hardness development, and yellowing characteristics. For the lowest segments (primers and stains), their application will be limited. It is in these segments that acrylic dispersions have acquired a good reputation, for both their performance and price have been accepted by the do-it-yourself market.
In the middle section, ranging from normal outdoor durable alkyds to the better performance stains, alkyd emulsions can be positioned. Their versatility and excellent environmental score (no volatile organic components are necessary) make them exceptionally suitable for this.Note de contenu : - THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE : Workers versus environment - Water versus air protection - Controlled versus uncontrolled application
